Tillana - Behag - Adi -???? Don't know the composer.

I reachd the venue little late. Didn't hear the Varnam.
The concert was very good and set a very classical mood. I have heard Venkataraman in several concerts as an accompanist. Heard the other two only yesterday. The combination was very good and they played with good understanding.
Initially the concert lacked momentum but gained pace from the Sama piece. Venkataraman played Mukhari ragam very well but I thought he could have played a little longer. Ravikiran played Kalyani ragam with a lot of vishranti and created a very calm and serene musical atmosphere. Then came the Saveri Ragam from Ashwin. He brought out many heart warming sangatis. He has a very good control over the instrument. The compositions were played well but one felt that there was little ambiguity at times.

The RTP ragamalika swaram was very interesting. The initial phrase of the first 3 ragams started with Saveri sangati but changed to a different ragam (Ahiri, Asaveri and Malahari).

Special mention is needed about the accompanists Neyvelli Narayanan, Giridhar Udupa and N Amrith. Neyvelli Narayanan's accompaniment of compositions was truly remarkable. Giridhar and Amrith played with good understanding. The tani avartanam was exhilarating and went on for about 30 minutes.

This G.Ravikiran is a student of Sri H. V.Krishnamurthy (father of Sri. H.K.Venkatram and a violinist himself) in Vijaya College of Music, Jayanagar, Bangalore. His elder brother Mohan Rangan is also an excellent flautist settled in the United States now.

Baro krishnayya is a composition of Kanakadasa but I believe the popular ragamalika version that commences in Mand has been tuned by Smt Charumathi Ramachandran.
