S Sowmya for Neelakanta Sivan festival at Trivandrum

Smt Sowmya's performance for Neelakanta Sivan Sabha (Monday, Jul 28) on the composer's 108th aradhana, was an inspired energetic one that struck all the right chords. Accompanied ny Avaneeswaram Vinu, Neyveli Narayanan and Udupi Sridhar, her performance in Tvm after several years was a fine example to emulate for this city's music students as well as a connoiseur's delight. Prof Omanakutty who spoke towards the end of the concert recalled her encounter with an infant Sowmya many years ago, who responded to hummed swaras with correct raga identifications. She rightly described Sowmya as one truly blessed by Goddess Saraswati. Song list of the concert:

Vinu was outstanding both as accompanist and in his solo alapanas of Sriranjani, Saveri, etc. Narayanan stole the show with his stellar accompaniment and led the excelent tani with good support from local man Udupi Sridhar.

That seems to be a superb concert. Swagatham krishna is of course a beautiful oothukkadu vekata kavi's composition in Mohanam.

Yarukku tan theriyum in devamanohari is Dr.S.Ramanathan's master piece.

SingaravElavan vandan endanai aala in the raga anandabhairavi is a simply superb composition of papanasam sivan.

Just out of curiosity, did she do the final swarams for Durusuga in tisram followed by a long korvai in tisram (by Pudukottai Dakshinamurthy Pillai)?

Nice list... ages since I heard "Thandai Thai". NCV's vesrion used to be played on Vividh Bharati long ago! By the way, I was looking at the KGS Gokulashtami programme and found that on Aug 8th Sowmya is accompanied by veteran T Rukmini and our Mannargudi Easwaran Sir. Now, that should be something to look forward to.
