Every moderator of every forum in the world would like to eliminate spammers, of course.

On an other forum where I am a moderator, we have a filter which holds back posts containing certain words, from those below a certain post count. Another way is to moderate all posts from new members.

There will always be posts that get through the net, and there will always be new members who are inconvenienced by whatever measures are taken.

It is a very ugly thing to see in our forum listings, but, one way or another, we should be patient with our moderators.

Yeah, I've already done that. As Nick has pointed out, yes we will be using a list of banned words on the forum too to prevent the most obvious spam from getting posted.

I am also exploring the possibility of putting a CAPTCHA box on the registration form (where you read some characters from an image and enter it into a field to verify that you are a human and not a bot).

CAPTCHAS are not foolproof, but they require a little more effort, and maybe people may think that our tiny, specialist site is not worth their while.

So, yes... every little helps.

OK the CAPTCHA is in place, and I have enabled the registrations once again. Now let me enable word-censors.
