Vasudha Keshav-Vocal
Akkarai Sornalatha-Violin
Kalakkad Srinivasan-Mridangam
Kalaimamani A.S.Krishnan - Morsing

The concert was organised on Vinayaka Chaturthi and as i havnt attended any concerts in the recent times due to professional commitments i wanted to listen to some concert. I have played for the above artiste and knowing her high calibre my choice fell on this concert and also the concert was from 3 to 4.30 well before my evening concert at 6.30.

The Songs she rendered are given below :

1) Shlokam:Gurubrahma, Guruvishnu… Reetigowlam
Tattwamariyatarama Reetigowlam Papanasam Sivam Adi
2 Palukutache Phalamanjari Pattanam Subramania Iyer Rupakam
3 Siddi Vinayagam Anisham Shanmukhapriya Dikshitar Rupakam
4 Koniyade Kokiladhwani Tyagaraja Adi
5 Nannu Paalimpa Mohanam Tyagaraja Adi
6 Tillana: Tarita Jhonu Taka Dhim Darbari Kaanada Srimushnam Raja Rao Misra Chapu

The songs were rendered very neatly and had high classical flavour. She has been trained under her aunt H. S. Mahalakshmi, a renowned artist of Karnataka, belonging to the vocal style of the legendary Tiger Varadachariar. She has been under the able tutelage of Padma Bhushan Shri.P.S.Narayanaswamy in chennai ever since she shifted to chennai.

As i entered the hall Tatvamariya Tharama in Reethigowlai was in progress and she rendered it with relaxed pace filled with bhava. Palukutache in Phalamanjari (i am listening to this for the first time- and i heard that Hyd brothers sing this kriti in concerts- i must get hold of it ) followed suit with brisk pace with nice chittaswaras. Siddhi vinayakam in shanmukhapriya was prceded by a brief alapana and had swara passages in Madyama and durita kala in Atheetha. Koniyade was a nice filler before Mohanam. Mohana Raga was elaborated nicely and the artiste showed her class in the delineation not straying away from classicism. Nannu Paalimpa was the kriti chosen as piece de resistance. The korvai which she sang was very nice and Srimushnam Rajarao's sir's nice thillana in Darbari Kaanada ended the delectable concert of Vasudha.

All the accompanists were gud.

JB,
This post of yours is a new beginning .Usually you post when you play. Now you are opening a brand new leaf post as a rasikA . Mridangam, u simply rock both as a playing and a non-playing captain. Also since you were non playing today you decided not to comment on your beloved instrument.

Dear Rajesh

I have not commented on the mridangam and Morsing as their thani was very short and sweet. Actually they played one turn and joined for a mohara. I shall elaborate the nuances in some other concert that i attend in the near future. Kalakkad srinivasan is an old time friend of mine and he has been very steady and stable in the music circle. A.S.Krishnan's morsing was very melodious merging himself with the sruthi and gave innumerable varieties. This was the reason i couldnt write much about the accompanists. If i write that the Thani was short readers might feel that the main artiste left the accompanists very little time to perform their thani. So i couldnt elaborate further thinking about all these sukshama aspects. I shouldnt be talking negative about the main artiste too and hence wrote a simple sentence.

Anyway thanks for the encouragements.
