1. Varnam was rendered in chowka kalam - 2 kalai and in two speeds. charanam was rendered in same kalapramanam as pallavi and in two speeds also. swaras were rendered for charanam line (paluku..), in first and 2nd kalam. most of the swara kalpana avarthanas were in single avarthana cycle
2. swaras were rendered neatly. HKV replied very well, particularly for concluding avarthanam. chittaswaram in anu pallavi - part of it rendered in 1st kalam, and 2nd part in 2nd speed.
3. kamas alapana was for about 10 minutes, violin reply was very classical. swara patterns were good with various combos of G M P D N D employed by TNS like G M - P D N D, P D N - D, P D N D -- etc... HKV's response was also followed these sequences.
4. Arabhi alapana covered tara styayi prayogams and mandara stayi also well. There was slight sruti misalignment while coming down from tara styani panchamam briefly. Violin reply was very good, and was unhurried.
TNS rendered two slokas on narasimha - one in tamil, one in sanskrit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narasimha)
Aadi Aadi Agam Karandhu,
Isai Paadi Paadi Kanner Malgi,
Engum Naadi Naadi Narasinga Endru,
Vaadi Vaadum Il Vaazh Noothale!
Ugram, Viram, Maha-Vishnu,
Jwalantam, Sarvato Mukam,
Nirshimham, Bhishanam, Bhadram,
Mrityor-Mrityur namam yaham.
Kalapramanam for this song, and also gowlai - sri mahaganapathi could have been little slow.
5. However, mayamma compensated for this, it was rendered very well, in chowka kalam, and was very moving.
6. I expected a pratimadhyama raga after this, either pantuvarali or kalyani. TNS started kalyani !!!
During alapana, he used janta swara, dhatu swaras effectively, and he did shruti bedam (in tara stayi rishbam as base??) resulting in sudda danyasi. HKV also followed suit, and did shruti bedam during his reply. Thanam was very brisk. Pallavi was very brief , no or very little neraval, no trikalam.. swaras were very brief, and he jumped to ragamalika swaras.
TNS was honored by gayana samaja on the occasion of his 60th birthday
7. Thirupugazh was interesting, in ragamalika - probably one raga for every line.. i could recognize begada, anadha bhairavi, surati.
RTP was kind of disappointing, considering TNS standards. No neraval any where other places also...Overall it was enjoyable.

He gave a concert yesterday at Chennai - Narasimha Mamava preceded by the Ugram Viram Shlokam and Mayamma were there as well. The main was Nidhi Chala - Kalyani. An interesting feature however was the sort of mini Neraval he did for the opening Viriboni Varnam(Bhairavi) at the Charanam line followed by Swarams.
