Rarely, we can find a person who excelled both Carnatic and non-carnatic field. We could find "n" number of violinists who excelled in CM field, but Kunnakkudi Sir is different. Though he did not perform solo nor concert but encourage CM by organising workshops, had his own academy of arts.
He enjoyed whatever he has done. Utomost sincerety, be it is the head of Thyagaraja festival, Tiruvaiyaru or his own academy of arts or innovative way of finding the ragas to cure diseases etc. He spanned his carreer in many ways. A devotee of Maha peiaval and lovable by one and all.
Two contributions merit mention here.
1) His film "Deivam" (God" in which he made Madurai Somu to sing his all time famour "Marudamalai MamaNiye" -excellant Darbari kanada. It is the only video clip of Somu available (I think) with us. You could see young kunnakkudi playing violin wih all smiles.
2) His film Agasthiar where he composed music. One has to listen to the songs and the raagas. All the songs are excelptional especially who will forget the Ravanana-Agasthiar Song.. "VenRiduven". When someone lauded him for this song, he humbly said, no song could be better than "oru Naal Podhuma by Balaiah and Sivaji's " Pattum Nane" in the film Tiruvalayadal. He added that is the best one to one song he has heard in his life. Another tribute to his guru A.P.Nagarajan who introduced him first to become a music director in his film "Vaa Raja Vaa".
Unfortunately, he could not groom any disciple to step in to his path. Sad whether common public, would love to listen to violin of any one else apart from Sri. Kunnakkudi.
Condolences to his family.

One can never be sad when Kunnakudi sir adorns the stage, I still remember a family function i which he played a 2 hour concert. As soon as my grand father walked in he played, "Vaango, Vaango" on the violin. He has truly mastered the instruent.
I am sure he will attain the Lotus Feet of Lord Muruga, whom he always worshipped.
