A nice morning concert.. most of the keertanas were in vilamba kalam, very soothing. I have heard nenarunchara mostlly as a filler, but to begin a concert - in a kalapramanam in unhurring way, was impressive. Neraval & swarams was very satisfying. Kamalamba in ananda bhairavi was sung in vilamba kalam - would have made MDR proud!

Then, couple of new keerthanas for me! i haven't heard upendram ashrayami and sankachakra gada panim!! purnachandrika alapana was wonderful, nice sancharams, with a very forcefull rishabam - janta swaras and dhatu swaras effectively handled. Not many of muthuswamy dikshitar keerthanas have madhyama kalam sahitya in both anu pallavi and charanam, this song is one of them. Amba paradevate was sung with chittaswaram, may be, litte too fast - no complaints, since rest of the concert was packed with vilamba kala rendering.. Harikamboji was treated elaborately, with alapana, neraval and swaram. Krishna very much enjoyed his own singing, and so is audience.

After javali, a nice viruttam - slokam, it was eppo varuvaro and ranga baro.

Surprise of the concert was vande mataram - raga outline and the piece was sung very leisurely.

A very enjoyable concert, thanks to organizers, and also krishna and team...

Hari, thanks for the review. How did u manage to get an invitation for this? I called up Advaita last week and asked them about this. The person said only 'people who i invite can come for this' and was not very keen on inviting me! :) I would like to get into their "elite" list of invitees...

s_hari,
The slokham "Kara charana krutham vaak kayajam" is by AdishankarA.

Never knew BS chandrasekhar- CM connection.Once I saw his counterpart S.VenkatarAghavan who is also a CM fan though in an old hindi songs concert, where he as a chief guest said how he loves CM.

That was interesting Hari. Thanks for the same.

Also for those who may not know B.S.Chandrasekhar is a great fan of the legendary playback singer Mukesh. Infact it is said that Chandra has the entire Mukesh collection and also knows the songs by heart ! :)

I think you should get into Hari's list first. He has the key to all private chamber concerts in Bangalore :)

cml,
Nope, I think you crossed with maulav gangA which was by appayA dikshitar, well all SSI's masterpieces , certainly you would have enjoyed all in your earlier days with SSI himself .

S Hari...Thanks for the review. Interesting to read about Vande mataram.
I attended Sanjay's concert at the same place but didn't get to know about this one. BTW, BS Chandrashekar the great spinner of yester years came for that concert as well.
Too bad I missed this concert. Love to go for morning concerts which is a rarity in Bangalore.

A request to you and other rasika friends. Please write a few lines elaborating about the accompanists as well. I personally feel that most of the reviews in rasikas and other forums are very main artist centric. Not to forget that the concert is after all a team work.

Shouldn't that be maulam gangA shashAnkam... 'maulau' and 'shashankau' do not make grammatical sense. SSI's nasal rendition makes the am sound like au.

Among sportsmen, Ramanathan Krishnan ia also into CM and apparently frequents Narada Gana Sabha (which is very close to his Oliver Road home) during the season....I am sure there are others...

mauli = head/crown of the head/
maulau = on the head (saptami or locative)
Hence maulau ganga shashAnkam= Ganges and moon on the head, is grammatically all right!

Important to state that Arun Prakash was just *brilliant* - not just in the thani -but probably amongst the *best* accompanyists to play for Krishna
