Five Hours Concert by TNS

TNS performed a 5 hours concert in Kerala (read about this somewhere but not able to find the same now) recently. This has been upoaded in Sangeethapriya. I listened to it today. The concert is awesome!. Unusual to have a 5 hours concert these days when 3 hours is felt to be longer for a concert duration. But TNS has done full justice to the concert duration and takes one back to the early 50's and 60 / 70's when we used to have such concerts to give a feel of these concerts.

Almost all his renditios are great in this concert especially his voice appears to be in great form throughout. Right from Kanada alapana and mamava sada neraval and swaras where he overcomes some voice problems, to hamsanandi alapana, majestic todi (srutibedam to mohana kalyani and kurinji responded well by Chandru as usual by bring in folklore), santhanamanjari every single item is really great to hear. The ending swara pattern for Todi, where he brings in a little of veda (ish) speaks of his boundless manodharma. The piece de resistance is of course the RTP in Vasanthabhairavi - 3 raga bhairavi, vasantha and vasanthabhairavi almost 1 hour wth trikalam sung for the pallavi.

Then he launches into Arabhimanam and a RGM virutham followed by a slokam in CM and Mangalam on Amba. It was a wholesome experience.

The accompaniments were Chandru and KV Prasad. Any more details on the concert - should be a navaratri related concert since all krithis are on devi. Anyone else who has listened to the concert please share your views.

Though of late I am not a big fan of TNS due to his voice / sruti problems which mar the concert experience, this certainly was in a different league truly reminiscent of the master that TNS is with so much creativity and manodharma which makes his concerts so unpredictable. Hope we can see some concerts of such duration in Chennai during the season ! (wishful thinking)

It is a wonderful concert. TNS seemed to be suffering from a sore throat and lesser artists would have been happy with a 2 hr concert with such a problem . Just shows why he is regarded so high.

Thanks a million to the noble souls who recorded and shared the concert.

Only downside is the huge size of download (650MB)

Is it always like that the artist fall out of favor, as soon as he lacks the ability to enamour the rasikas? sad!

Just downloaded the main Thodi and the Pallavi so far. Its really nice. His Manodharmam is amazing at places. He sang the same Pallavi last season at MFAC. But I had to miss that concert. Nice to get hold of it..
