It was an exciting concert. The AlApanais were all elaborate and done in a very scholarly fashion. All the kritis were rendered with ease but with each sangati falling in place, and each note resonating, it was a treat to hear. The svarams were all measured and korappus played were all very nice. The accompanists were very good as well.

A very enjoyable concert.

Thanks a lot Bharat. :) Good to read a review of Nadaswaram concerts especially of a person of the calibre of Mambalam MKS Siva.

The alapanais were all excellent. The thavils sang with the nadasvarams. The "wind" shruti box conventionally used with nadasvarams makes a big change to the overall experience. :) It was wonderful to hear pauses at perfectly pitched places from Shri Siva along with this different kind of drone. The playing was (especially ragams) done with lot nidaanam, which is perhaps a little unorthodox for nadasvarams. But I loved it for that! :)

Shri Durai played superb replies to the svarams.

Nidhaanam is one of the things of the past with Nadaswaram players. The way TNR plays Thodi (from what little I have heard through recordings which anyway is nowhere near the experience of Rasikas who thronged temple festivals those days) for close to 45 minutes is amazing - yes Bhriga phrases are used, but the entire Ragam experience is definitely leisurely.
