Hi all,
I posted this on the previous thread and then realized that it may not get read since it was an older topic/discussion.
Along with Charsur, I managed to organize a repeat performance of the piano/harmonics in CM, at the Vinnyasa Gallery in CIT Colony, Mylapore - on the 13th of December, at 4 PM. Its a Saturday afternoon, so we are hoping that maximizes the ability of folks wanting to attend.
Gurucharan will be joining me on this one, and we will demonstrate how harmonics can be textured, and what one should NOT delve into. I hope to see as many of you there as possible!
Regards
Anil S

Yes, please. Please try to record and propagate as much of your work as possible. Not only do recordings reach a larger potential audience, they can be listened to multiple times, and that helps lay listeners understand a bit better.asrini wrote:Not sure - but can ask them to, if you think it will be of value.
Thanks!

Hi jananee
If you call up Charsur ( their contacts are on the website www.charsur.com) they can give you the right directions.
As for recording, I believe that Charsur themselves are planning to record it.
Thanks for bringing up the topic again on the forum - with the recent flurry of emails on TMKs November Fest, I was dissappointed that the announcement was receding into the background, when actually, it was a discussion on this very forum that prompted me to get Charsur to organize this!

Vijay - thanks a lot - wish you were here.
rshankar - look forward to seeing you, coolji and others at the lec-dem. All this was due to the suggestion of this very community so definitely hope to see as many of you there. And yes, the timing for this, so that it ends just so that we can all catch Gowri's book release is perfect. So no excuses for those in Madras

The workshop was excellent - it was very different from what I anticipated to hear, but on the whole, I think the way it was presented was much better. Thanks to Anil Srinivasan and Sikkil Gurucharan for a wonderful afternoon!
I also had the pleasure to meet Ram, Rajani, Rajumds, Arun, Rajesh, and (surprise) Arasi and her husband (Krishnan) in person, and put faces to the names finally! We had a great time under the stewardship of Kji!

It was indeed an excellent presentation by Sri Anil & Sri Gurucharan. Sri Anil was great in his explanations and handling the Piano. it was indeed a golden 1 hour for Sathya to have been there. It was nice of Sri Coolkarni to come forward to introduce himself to us and we were happy to have met him today. Thanks to this forum, we could have this program once again which was mentioned by Sri Anil before he started the lec-dem. I had to leave early and so could not get myself introduced to many who had come from this forum.
It is indeed encouraging that many from this forum had been there which shows that this forum and its members are open for newer ideas, if presented well

coolji -
Your joke reminds me of a recent joke regarding the wall street meltdown (precipitated by the housing market downturn/collapse). It is not really related to the situation at hand but here it goes.
One banker says to another banker - this meltdown is worse than divorce. I have lost my house and half my money. And I still have a wife!

Anil,
I did not make it as I could not come back home on time from extra work, that got spilled because of me sneaking before work hours for listening to a concert on Friday. Looks like other rasikas.org folks enjoyed their bit , your communication is impressive and was very good and that is what I heard from others.
Arasi,
Very very sorry madam , despite you telling me that Smt rAdha would sing your number in her tribute to MS subhulakshmi, we (cool, rams ,rshankar, arunk , me and rajumds)missed your personal desert . Smt rAdhA sang bhairavi viriboni varnam , gaulipaNtu theradeeyaka and an alApana of poorvikalyAni. WE headed for a so so nAn in hotel mAris (Guys especially rshankar and arunk how is your after effect after nAN ), then we headed for an excellent icecreams in hotel amarAvathi. Perhaps there you and your husband missed the desert.

I think we perhaps got a bit "speeched out" (each of the speeches was short in itself - but there were six or seven of them). Atleast my tummy at that time was positively (g)rumbling that it was speeched out.
Yes - Maris was a flop but no matter (i have had worse) The dessert at the icecream shop (not amaravathi I thought? Some place that started with snow...?) was superb.

Arun, 'soup' would be a charitable description! I am sure Ram will agree! ("soup mAdiri" may be closer to the truth). But I have to confess that the company more than made up for the food - truth be told, I for one was not aware of what or how much I ate!
The food may have been mediocre, the ice cream awesome, but there is no doubt that fun we had was sublime!
Vijay, I am actually glad we diid not tread the sambar/rasam route, because I am certain that it would have had certain rocket-launching ingredients that would not have augured well for sleep of any kind (satisfied or otherwise!)

Thanks to everyone who attended, and glad you all enjoyed/felt you picked up something new at this workshop.
I am also very glad that many of you came with an open mind, and went back with something positive. although it seems amusing at this point, the whole controversy on this very thread about a year ago, calling the whole collaboration a gimmick, would be, at least, partially allayed, I hope. All music is an expression of the heart, and unless it is insincere, I say we give it a listen!

Anil,
We arrived in Chennai just an hour before your workshop--and had to meet someone at five! Sorry for leaving early. Wish I had stayed on. Both your presentation and playing were soothing to the ears.
Delicately your fingers play the notes, but it is all from the heart (and with a lot of training !).
That was a big crowd in a small gallery--a perfect setting for the event. Thanks to Charsur for arranging it.
If I remember right, I had said earlier that what you do is nothing like what mostly goes in the name of fusion. The nidAnam in your work and in your interaction with Gurucharan appealed to me when I first heard you a year ago on a couple of CDs. I am glad other rasikAs found you appealing when you played and spoke yesterday...

cool ji - your post was very heart-warming. Both Charan and I thank you sincerely, the appreciation makes us feel very encouraged.
Arasi ji - I am very touched that you could come - I know you told me that you had just arrived - what with the confusion just before starting the programme, i did not have time to talk to you at length. We must catch up before you go back to Bangalore.

Dear All,
Gurucharan and I will be doing an interaction (this time with coffee/tiffin
) as part of Carnatica's Sangeetha Sandippu on the 24th afternoon between 4 and 5 PM at Sangeetha RA Puiram.
I promise to talk ( at least in summarized form) about some of the aspects I covered in the lec-dem, for those who missed it.
Do come.
Regards
Anil Srinivasan
