Yes, being a habitual browser of this site, I did wonder why there werent many postings of Sudha Raghunathan's reviews. Had been to two of hers during my concert hopping and was quite mesmerised by the one at Vani Mahal. I dont posess great classical knowledge but then, I sat thro the entire 3 hours simply lost...the lady has a unique style of rendering..and her kannada is flawless. Probably inherited from her guru..all her dasara kritis are awesome and there is the right punch in each of the lines (if I may use the word in this context of divine music!) There was a neat RTP with outstanding performances from the accompanists. It was truly a delite....most places its tha audio that seems to be the bane...

Take a step and post , while there are few who have knowledge to start , there are many who just took small steps and believe me once you start posting you will get a real good progress after few months. In any case just start with few krithi list , we all are here to help you if there are few mistakes. Hoping to see your great first post.

since you ask, she sang a good kharaharapriya for kartik fine arts. voice in good shape better than last season.
another "nonrepresented" singer nithyasree, she sang a good concert for bharat kalacar. supradipam, hamsanadam, kannadagowla, mohanam. good clean singing as opposed to crooning, humming, pantomime acts and geriatric wheezing thatis often on offer during season. but top notes not as easy as before with some high notes being sounded with toomuch squillo leading to harshness.
i have yet to listen to other unrepresented singers like aruna, jaysree so no comment there yet.

I agree with rajeshnat; once you take the reviewing plunge, you will find the going gets much easier once you're in the water. We just want to hear your experience of the concert! There are posters here who comment on the technical details, those who comment on the auditoria and even canteens, those who comment on audience behaviour, the artiste's clothes (!), and everything else under the sun. It all makes for really interesting reading and we're lapping everything up. So, akshara, looking forward to your sharing!

I'm always at pains to point out that I do not post reviews; just occasional subjective comments on a concert!

Jaysree's voice won me over the other evening; I thought it was just beautiful. I was also impressed by the amount of improvised music she presented; few songs, for instance, lacked at least a short alapana.

Aruna S. on the other hand, left me feeling unsatisfied in a way that I cannot define. Most of the jam-packed audience, including my wife, loved it. My wife went out to buy her CDs. I'll be going out to buy Jaysree's, as I'm astonished to realise that I have none --- well, I have one, but it is not classical.

Sudha R I have not seen for a couple of years, but I would expect, as well as a packed hall, another 'full' concert in content, and I'd be surprised if it was not full in time too, I'd carry water and sweets to see me through at least three hours! I guess she must have been one of the first carnatic vocalists whose CDs I bought when I was first settling down on the C side of the CM/HM divide.

rbsIyer: Nityashree also sang good Ranjani mala as RTP, covering about 8 ranjani ragas in the ragalamalika swaras.

Hey friends, thanks so much for the encouragement and support. As I mentioned I was only browsing all the while but ragangaragam's post kind of made me think cos I have been to a quite a few of Sudha Ragunathan's concerts on a friend's recommendation and the simplicity struck me, as in maybe the mainpieces were all of complex raagas and the RTP had many a variety that am unable to even remotely fathom, but at the end of it when you get up, its as though you just went up to the Divine and returned....well, i had been to one of hers this morning at Krishna Gana Sabha and sat thro an entier lengthy RTP which had a flavour of multiple raagas..I know am not of much help right now but will get the list from some other knowledgeable soul and fill it in. Thanks again friends..really nice to feels such a healthy environment in discussion and education..
