Ramachandran's Thatha Shri MVI had his appA santhAnam to give vocal support , his appA santhAnam had him, his brother srinivAsan and Dr Ganesh to take turns and give vocal support . There was one prominent sishya with a tampurA (I have heard him singing a small invocatory krithi few years back), perhaps he singing only to ramAchandran's ears and not to all our ears did cost this concert.
The start was splendid , he usually sings atleast 3 or 4 pancharatna Ragas in succession, his nAtttai krithi (a rare one) with swaras and the preceeding sahAnA was excellent . Arabi superstar is rAmachandran, his singing this particular rAga is particularly impressive , with neraval and swaras , the nAdaswara vidwans have to sit in the first row to get tips from this vidwan.
The downhill started briefly with varAli and this big krithi did take a hit briefly. Why should he take another tough bilahari that too this fast no Toli JaNma with swaras , he was over ambitious and was not delivering well.
The main kharaharapriyA (I am speculating) this particular krithi rAmA neeyEda was not his cup of tea. There were just too many slips in the entire rendition , the alAPana having a lot of manOdharma piDi was the only consolation
A rare swami mayura in nAgaswarAli?? was good to very good.RTP in hameerkalyAni needs a lot of vidwath, he had a lovely voice and was briefly going in circles little too long in alAp and tAnam. Pallavi was just ok, the swaras were all excellent particularly vAsanthi.
DurgA is one tukkadA which rAmachandra consistently excels. nAgai played very good , though his kharaharapriya was bit mediocre.B.HarikumAr was good only till first half , his pallavi playing was not the best .The ghatam artist mOhanrAm gave good support,their tani was just ok.
In short this Arabi superstar needs vocal support. Overall a good concert
