9. nAlai varum enru nambalAmA - chandrakauns - madurai GS Mani

Gurucharan started with an excellent varnam rendition of Shivan in shreeranjani, a rare one which had so much of swara lakshanam imbibed in it, just felt the excellence of shivan as a vaggeyakkara was well exhibited. He followed up with the usually fast paNtuvarAli , with a very good rendition of neraval and swaras. If Shivan's brilliance was shown little before , ThyagarAja as a vaggeyakkara was amply demonstrated .ThyagarAja who had created kharaharapriya and also some excellent rAgas that are damn close to kharaharapriya (devaamruthavarshini and devamanOhari).Yesterday he sang a very pleasing and fast moving devamanOhari.

The concert dipped in tiruppavAi, to me gurucharan did not sing perfectly the dhanyAsi there was definitely quite a lot of Ahiri touches there. The aberration got beautifully adjusted with kedAram. kalakshetra's music is perhaps best defined with MDR ,and MDR's brilliance was in his kedaram . Gurucharan sang beautifully the kedaram number.

Gurucharan is gifted with a very melodious voice , Well with keeravAni he was at the right spot. A well spread and detailed alApanai and a well rounded tAnam was excellent . The pallavi was just very good , he sang 3 swara rAgamAliga apart from keeravANi , perhaps I spotted only malayamArutham ?? (hope it is not valaci), the other two I just missed. The swaras in pallavi were not as enticing as his RAgam and TAnam.

Usually gurucharan sings well rounded tukkadas , but to me his tukkadas were just good , the rush of the emotive chandrakauns of madurai gs mani was not that great finish. The one preceding that was I think was a javAli in ykkAMbOdhi??, found it too difficult to catch the diction there.

VaradarAjan was excellent , his keeravAni bowing was brilliant he played it in contrast to gurucharan's rendition, a slow moving keeravAni with minimal tone start and then a touch of violin symphony like vs narasimhan was perfect. His returns were excellent .The percussionist ArunprakAsh was average , His play in general always stumps me , his stroking is always predictable that too for few numbers there is a long silence then a gentle tap and then a little surge , mridangam dynamic nAdham was missing . BSP was just good perhaps he was finding it difficult to cruise along with arun, their tani was mediocre . OVerall a very good concert.

The padam is Bamaro Muvva Gopala, in Kedaragowlai by Kshetrayya.

He sang Vaasanthi and Valachi in his RTP in addition to the ragas you mentioned.

Did he sing 3 Ragas in rAgamAliga or just 2 apart from keeravAni.
