paNtula ramA@tattvalokA on Dec 27,2008

Accompanied by msn murthy - violin and ...??? - mrudangam
1. gajavadanA mAshrayE (R)-kedAram - ???
2. nee chitamu (R N S) - dhanyAsi - T
3. sarasa sAma dhAna - kApinArayani - T

4. dunmArga chara (R, S) -ranjani -T
5. shiva shiva yenarAdA - paNtuvarAli -T
6. RTP in shankarAbharanam
pallavi in "nee bhajana shree rAma anudinamu daturA varada jESE vAriki??"
7. thillAnA - dhanashri -ST

Overall a very good concert .Particularly s'bharanam tAnam and rAga alApanai was excellent to outstanding and was the best.DhanyAsi alApanai and ranjani alApanai stood out .The pallavi line was a long one certainly I was thinking for a period of time that she was singing a krithi. Swaras in pallavi could have been more rounded.

The mridangist played very well during the song rendition , his tani was just too plain. Shri MSN murthy gave a very good support particularly I liked his alApanai return in ranjani.

Also caught a bit of the promising amritha venkatesh in solla vallAyo (rAgamAliga),a yaman krithi and a hamsAnandi. I think she also sang s'bharanam main. Perhaps 2 sbharanam and two tani's had an effect on my concentration. PaNtula ramA has a melliflous voice slightly resembling MLV, her rendition was clean and well presented . If you like MLV you may like her , though there is another MLV gem who is kind of sidelined much more.

I go with Rajeshnat for his review on PR.The mridangam artist is from Vizag(as also PR &MSNM) working in AIR I forgot his name.1 is kedaram only. Why there is doubt ?

AV sang Yadhukula Kambhoji as main not SB.In sollavallayo she sang it as ragamalika with Bhageshree, mand,VAKULABHARANAM&chalanattai.I was dying to hear VB and happy that atleast got a spoonful of it.

AV has a very fertile voice, flow and imagination; should be promoted to the next slot.

ganesh kant , I had no doubt in kedAram , I put the ?? as I did not know the composer.

Thanks for YK kAmbOdhi , I only heard the last loop where YK kAmBodhi and s'bharanam intersect

Latha,

A small bit of advise for you & I hope you dont mind :)
In case you need to criticise a person in a public forum use appropriate words and tone down your language suitably. Budding singers need encouragement.

I guess everyone has a right to voice his/her opinion but what can one say when someone like Amrutha Venkatesh is called pathetic...what a Sri Rajagopala I heard from her yesterday! I found it hard to believe that it was being sung in an afternoon slot.

I can think of half a dozen singers in the "prime slot" I would replace her with but sadly these days it seems impossible for a singer to gain popular attention without resorting to gimmicks...I can only hope she ignores her detractors and continues singing the way she is.

I too heard amruta venkatesh in nada inbam few days ago. She sang very well and it was full of sowkyam. There is no gimmiks, no supersonic speed keerthanas. May be, that's why she is termed as dull. Let it be so.

I have not heard Amrutha Venkatesh sing.
But it would be good if people are more constructive in their criticism.

I had the good fortune to attend Kum. Amrutha's Navarathri Mandapam concert and I was totally mesmerized by her music. Personally hers was the best amongst the 5 concerts I happened to attend at the Mandapam this year.

as youngsters should not be criticsed in public forum, they should not also be praised to skylevel.if showering adulations are right, then criticisms is also right
