I have been attending Mudhra concerts for the last few years , where the theme is "One RAga , One Krithi and TukkadAs".This time the rAga was the majestic ,the crown of CM , Todi.

TV Ramprasad was accompanied by Ganesh Prasad - Violin and Malekaveri Balaji - Mridangam and this is my 2nd concert experience of
TV Ramprasad.

1.GajAnanayutham - ChakravAkham - Dikshitar- 6:30 to 6:35 pm
2. TODI- rAga alApana - 6:35 -6:51pm (16 mins)
3. Violin rAga alApana - 6:51 - 6:57pm (6 mins)
4. TAnam - 6:57 to 7:07 pm (10 mins)
5. Dikshitar's Sri Krishnam Bhaja Manasa - 7:08 to 7:18pm(11 mins)
6. Neraval in the usual "Sankha chakra gada"- 7:18 to 7:30pm (12 mins)
7. Swaram - 7:30 to 7:51 pm (21 minutes)
8. Tani for 17 minutes.

Tukkadas(from 8:08 to 8:47pm)
9. NAnoru Vilayatu - NavarasaKannada - PapaNAsam Sivan
10. Slokham "AAgitham Bhuvanam Yesya"- Ahir Bhairav + SahAna
11. Viruttam "Kunitha Puruvamum" - Sriranjani
12. KAna VendAmo - Sriranjani -PApanasam Sivan
13. Smara Sundara -Pharaz - Dharmapuri SubbarayAr
14. tamboori meeTTidava - sindu bhairavi
15. Vajana Mighave (tirupugazh) ???? - ranjani
16. NiRi NiRi GaMa (Tillana) -Poorvi - Thanjavur Vaidhyanatha Iyer (popularized by MDR)
17. Ni NAma(Mangalam)

Ramprasad started with a very average rendering of the Dikshitar's popular GajAnana and gave a brief talk about the theme.

Todi alApana was quite good ,though gave a feeling it could have been more elaborate considering the theme of the concert. But certainly ramprasad had a clean todi game plan, as he followed with an excellent TAnam which gave a more rounded and complete experience of Todi.

I felt he took a very apt krithi ,which suits his voice which generally thins significantly when he goes more in the upper sthayi. The swarams were good in the start and the end . Did not like the intermediate 4 minutes of kanakku swarams.

The Ahir Bhairav slokham was excellent with a closely followed sahAna suiting his voice a lot .Surprisingly his jump from Slokham to tamil viruttam was just ok. To me his rendering of Sriranjani viruttam and kAna VendAmo was just average. Just getting a feeling that KAna VendAmo is too repetitive in concerts.

The SSI's immortal Pharaz was sung quite good and I could spot a nice alankaram in the anupallavi line by Ramprasad.Sindhu Bhairavi was just ok and the ranjani piece was little rushed . Liked the last tillana a lot.

GaneshPrasad's violin tone was pleasing to the ears , but did not take an oppurtunity to play more elaborately the Todi.

Balaji's percussion support was excellent, always thinning in volume proportionate to Ramprasad's voice strength . However the tani was not that great.

Interesting Side Note:
When the tillana was sung , I did wrongly identify and asked if the tillana was in HamsAnandi , for which a gentleman said it is in poorvi .

He asked my pen and wrote in the back of his ticket "rasikas.org" and asked me to go the site .

I said I know this site and I indeed visit.

O really I am "????".

I exclaimed and used few superlatives in praise of "????", for which "????" with humility said no no I am just a librarian.

Librarian was right with Poorvi ,though he is mistaken with the composer of the tillana.

I suspected that when there is a tamburi meethidava to be sung, a coolkarni cannot be too far away...I was rite, after all:).

I like the thukkada selection. His tOdi is pleasant and seems to be a rAgA that TV Ramprasad is quite comfortable with. Still, I hope to hear him (or hear about him) when he's out of the comfort zone...
