On January #0th,2009 Malladi Brothers,Sri Sriram Prasad and Sri Ravi Kumar gave a superb recital for the Annual festival of Hyderabad's Sharadha Cultural Trust. They were accompanied by Sri Embar Kannan on the Violin,Sri Neyveli Narayanan on Mridangam and Sri Ramanamoorthy on the Ghatam

10.parama purushamanuyAma-yaman kaLyANi-nArayaNA theerthar

The concert began ith the beautiful varnam in the rAga khAmbOji followed by a composition in vasantah which was simply beautiful. The song had splendid madhyamakala sahityams which juts moved the audience. The swarakalpana was done at "karadhritha sarajAlA susheelA" Then Sri Sri ramprasad rendered a detailed vakuLAbharaNam which was very rich and splendid. The krithi of thyagaraja was rendered with a great effect. The kalpanaswarams were done at the pallavi line. While doing this Sri Sri Ramparasad sang the swarams and landed at the pallavi "yE rAmuni" and immediately sri ravi kumar took up and landed at the pallavi saying "srI rAmuni" which was like the elder brother questioning "Which rAma did you believe in? " and the younger one answering "Sri Rama is the one "
Then the ysang the dwijAvanthy master piece of Dikshitar which was really moving. Then came the tamil composition in kunthalavarali.
The high light of the concert was the ragam kharaharapriya which was elaborated by sri Ravi kumar.
The song "naDachi naDachi" in kharaharapriya was rendered as the m,ain piece[same song was sung by Sri Vijay Siva during the same festival :) ] The neraval was done at the line "puDami sUthA sahAyuDai" The raga alapna went around for 18 minutes and the total song including the thaniavarthanam went for 75 minutes. I need not talk about Sri Embar Kannan as everyone knows how wonderful a violinist he is. Sri Neyevli Narayanan and Sri Ramana Moorthy gave a scholarly thaniavrthanam. During this the people followed the general tradition of going out of the hall during the thaniavarthanam and immediatelly Sri Sri Ramprasad said "Idhi interval kAdhanDi ala thaniavrthanam time lo bayataku velladaaniki. Kalakarulaku mariyAdha ivvandi. Daya unchi ee padhathi ni maaneyyandi"[This is not any interval. Please dont get out during the thaniavarthanam. Pleasse respect the artistes.Change this practise of getting out during the thaniavrthanam]
The post main item part had the unmatched hamsanAdham of theirs for the annamacharya composition. Then the yrendered a kannada composition and the song "rAma jOgi" was rendered as it was the Jayanthi of Bhadrachalam ramadasa that day. I had to leave the concert after that. On the whole it was a splendid concert and a real treat. Thanks to the all mahila organisation Sharadha Cultural trust for organising such wonderful concerts.

Of late, I observed Embar is accompanying Mallad duo many times. Rendering a Tamil song in between is also a welcome note for them. They still feel shy singing Tamil songs fearing of pronunciation. In the last 2 concerts- Manadhirgugandadhu (Sindu bhairavi) and Kumara Tal (Y.kambodhi) here at Chennai were rendered after RTP. The authority in which they render Telugu kritis is a delight to watch.

Nice review. Thanks for the review. Thanks too to vijayagopal for the recording ...
