We run, as a part of NZ Carnatic music Society, an education wing, where some 100 students are learning our music and are aged between 6 to 18. These sutdents are very eager and would love to see, in Auckland, some of the youngsters from India performing at this level. It would be an inspiration to these kids which would spur them to work even harder. More than that, the teachers here can also see for themselves the level and the intensity of training imparted to the kids back in India. One of these days, Rahul and the ilk will make these shores, I am sure. I will work on this.

Dear brother-member, Sam Swaminathan, Even three years back at his age of 13 yrs. Chi. Vinay Rahul had played a very successful Violin-concert of 2 hrs. along with Shri Mullapudi Shreeraama Murthy, the retired Top-rank Mridanga Vidwan of AIR, Vishakhapatnam. But, later, like all other parents of the aspirants, his father Chi. Haribabu also, unfortunately, gave 1st preference for general education and next preference for music by which Chi. Vinay Rahul’s regularity in music has been affected and kept him only on the average level. Now, even though his age is increased by 3 years his music has not been increased proportionately. Being well aware of this fact that he cannot do justice I did not attend his concert in Chennai on 8th Feb. But, being unaware of this fact and in a hurry to somehow push his son further, his father made his own arrangements for this concert in which he could not make full justice. As you wrote even the video-clipping of his concert may, no doubt, inspire some of the aspirants just to work harder. But, what, when and how they should practice must be guided by an efficient, knowledgeable, dedicated and loyal teacher only and their efficiency increases only by the effective, innovative and disciplined methods of teaching and well grooming of their teacher.
Even though Chi. Vinay Rahul was senior in learning Violin from me and Chi. O.Rajashekhar was junior to him, Chi. O.Rajashekhar, having given first preference for Violin and regularly worked hard for hours together, became able to render the Kalyani-Ata-Varna efficiently in 2 degrees of speed in 116 bpm of Metronome even in 2007 which has been uploaded in 2008 to ‘youtube.com/msakella’ and Chi. Vinay Rahul became stranded. The efficient finger-techniques along with the strenuous and regular practice not only kept Chi. O.Rajashakhar right on track but also enabled him to give a very successful Violin-concert recently on 6th Feb., at Rajahmundry.
Many may not openly like the style of music of Shri MSG, the Master of Violin, but, most unfortunately, his most efficient and highly disciplined finger-techniques of Violin are also adjudged linking them with the style of his music and criticized wrongly. Finger-techniques and style of music should always be differentiated and followed by. Fortunately enough, even though I am the ‘Ekalavya-Shishya’ of Shri MSG I was blessed by him not only to ably follow both but also to formulate a disciplined method of teaching that finger-techniques in Violin producing efficient disciples. Either the efficiency of the teacher or of the student must be adjudged by the performance of the efficient student only. amsharma

You must pardon me if I have said and written any thing to offend you. Quite obviously, I assumed, being your student and having read and observed your technique of playing, I naturally came to the conclusion that Sri Vinay Rahul must be "at that stage" in life to be presented with an opportunity to play at one of the leading sabhas of the city, receiving the blessings of Sri MSG. Even though I have not read any reveiws of this concert as yet, I am positive, Rahul's concert would have been a success. As for Sri O Rajashekar, I am keen to see him play, which I will, in the you tube very soon. As I have written earlier, it is important, from my perspective of promoting this glorious music in this country, introduce these talented kids to our kids and make them see what they can achieve given good training and practice.
As for MSG Sir and his music, I do not have enough knowledge to comment on it. I like it and as for as I am concerned he is God ! People who think that they know music, tend to criticise him and his music, but, charlatans have their job to do and there is no point in arguing about that !

Dear brother-member, Sam Swaminathan, You did not write any thing wrong to offend me. More over me too did not write anything having become offended. No need to think of any offence at all. Your intention of showing the Vinay Rahul’s video to your aspirants is very nice in encouraging them to learn these fine arts. But, my point is, unless they are well taught what, when and how to practice this music by an efficient teacher to become professionals there is no use if the aspirants merely observe such a video for some time.
I intend only to write about the importance of giving the 1st preference to learning music, learning from an efficient teacher and making regular and heavy practice to arriveat the destination among which the indifferent attitude of Chi. Vinay Rahul’s father towards the 1st and 3rd points hindered the required progress of his son. amsharma

AM Sharma,
Firstly, I don't know who Vinay Rahul is, until i read this thread.
Secondly, if you are so concerned about his performance/lack of practice, why don't you advise him personally rather than writing so strongly in a public forum. I am sure a true guru will never do this in a public forum and therefore damaging the future of his/her disciple.
A true talent will always make a mark inspite of all odds. However, a guru's blessing is very important.

unforturnately the careeer and concert of a young artiste has become a mudslinging campaign. Besides Mr. Akella sir should be knowing that a person can be brought to stage by influence but cannot stay all his life with just influencing and lobbying . I dont think this art form is a field where you introduce yourself all by your talent alone. Vinay rahul's career would be tested by time. If he is good enough he is going to come up in his music . simple.
I am sorry to say that matured people are venting out their feelings headlong without knowing its repurcussions. I dont beleive in the concept of " I AM FRANK AND OPEN AND I SAY WHATEVER I FEEL". One need to contemplate since this is a public forum and can have serious impacts on the mindset of a young hardworking kid struggling to come up in life. Elders should be mentors not nemesis.

I believe, instead of taking scores against each other like the one above, Sri Akella Sir and Sri Haribabu Sir should meet and sort out their difference of opinions and hard feelings in the interest of each other.

Chi. Haribabu dear,
Three years back also you wrote the same kind of personal letter running for 4 pages but in Telugu. Then as your wife has begged pardon in this connection and also as I felt that bringing your son’s talent out is more important than your abusive letter I did not take it seriously. Again, now, you have repeated the same by writing similar letter but in English and in an open forum for the benefit of all others. In every respect your statement is 100% false and I am answerable only to the Almighty but not to you or to any other person upon earth.
Unlike any other teacher I, having found your son’s abundant latent talent, sent word to you to bring him to me and taught him Violin from 8 am to 4 pm, continuously for 8 hours daily and regularly for nearly 20 days and could mould him properly in the following years. I never demand anything from my students except heavy and regular practice and except on holidays he could not practice more than average due to his general studies even though I have time and again insisted upon giving the 1st preference for music. Every mother feeds even the bitterest castor-oil to her infant-kid only to make him/her far more healthy but not with any anger or enmity at all and in the same manner I am supposed to do many things in due course which others may mistake. More over, there are so many teachers and parents who are over anxious in doing many things in favour of their kids, though unfit, and you are also one among them. For such mistakes committed by the parents or teachers the kids suffer a lot in the long run and in the same way, though you are not in a postion to realise, your son also has been suffering a lot for the mistakes committed by you. Hereafter God only should save you both. amsharma
