Concert to remember
Vijayalakshmy Subramaniam with Tanjavur Ramdas and pakala Ramdas on the 10th of Feb 2009
The songs rendered
1. Ra ra Ma inti Asaveri Adi
2. Sujana Jeevana Khamas Rup
3.Sarasa Sama Dhana Kapi Narayani Adi
4. Ehi Tri Jagadeesha Saranga M chapu ( rarely heard or not heard)
5 Paramathmudu vagadeswari Adi
6. Rama ni Samana Karaharapriya Rup (main)
7. Slikam Vyaso naigama ( composed by thayaraja students on guru)
in Simhendra Madhyamam, Baygeshri,Sahana, SindhuBhairavi, Suruthi
8 Pathiki Harathi re --Mangalam
Like I said this a concert to remember, Thats what Sri Narashiman also said in his speech.
It was complete in all sense sangeetha sahithya and manodhrama.
The saranga piece was rendered with a small raga alapana bringing out the very essence of Saranga and a song not often heard.
Her Karaharapriya raga brought back many a memories of yester year vidhvans. It was simply grand.
Let me mention that she was very adeptly accompanied on the violin by Pakala Ramdas and on the Mirudangam by Sri Tanjavur Ramdas. This man I must say does not have any gender bias as some of the senior mirudangam vidvams or even the not so senior vidvan have. Hats off to him.
The concert was definitely one to remember for years to come.

Tanjore Ramadoss, my first guru, is one of the pioneers of Tanjore Tradition having learnt directly under Palghat Sri Mani Iyer, is a doyen of maintaining the best thoppi (left side of the mridangam) in this field. I have always appreciated the spirit and his Arai-Chaapu is one of the best in the field.

Fully agree with this. I heard him accompany Sri Sanjay, and the ghumkis and nAdam that he produced from the thoppi were just incredible.mridhangam wrote:Tanjore Ramadoss, my first guru, is one of the pioneers of Tanjore Tradition having learnt directly under Palghat Sri Mani Iyer, is a doyen of maintaining the best thoppi (left side of the mridangam) in this field.

Balaji and Prashant,
Even someone as ignorant as I am when it comes to technicalities and nuances in the percussion department, I have always liked his playing immensely. I had a chance to tell him the same this season as we waited for our cars after a concert on New Year's Eve.
Sucha n unassuming man...

It was so nice to see Tanjore Ramdas playing excellently and enjoying the singing too.. He was most encouraging of the vocalist. Smt. VS's rendition of Saranga, vagadheeswari raga and song stood out. The Vagadheeswari alapana was so finely and sensitively done-- and the song rendition was among the best i've heard. The Kharaharapriya alapana had people almost in a trance. Indeed a memorable concert.
