A wonderful concert with the tempo maintained right from the beginning till mangaLam. Packed hall concert with no en mass walkout during thani. Begada was fantastic. Very neatly rendered Todi followed by NinnE namminAnu. MAravairi was the second ( ) Bhushani ragam within a week after Sanjay sang GAngeya B.
RTP turned out to be really wonderful, with BJ singing a nice SAma. I have heard her Mohanam/Kalyanavasantam combo RTP in Music Academy in 2006 and was hence wondering what could be her second ragam. She seamlessly switched to Sivaranjani and vice-versa (I thought it was this ragam only). Thanam was also done in both the ragams. Embar Kannan was too good and was in best of his form I guess, which was very much evident from his reply , be it during the switching between Sama and Sivaranjani or other ragams during ragamalika swaram. It was very apt that Smt. Jayashri chose an apt pallavi - Kannanai ninai.
Probably Sowmya or Sanjay would have, after listening to Embar's reply would have definitely modified the pallavi line atleast once to Embar Kannanai Ninai !

I watched Bombay Jayashree twice this past season and she does this incredible ragamalika swaraprasthara as part of the RTP. She seamlessly weaves in and out of several ragas in no particular order not staying in any one for more than a few seconds at a time and the moment of switching is imperceptible making the experience both wonderful and somewhat disorienting

I have heard that too. Bombay Jayashree's seems to be set in madhyama/dhuritha kalam with hardly a pause to even take a breath. And the ragas used are all quite uncommon ones - both Hindusthani and Karnatic based.vijay wrote:TNS is a past master at this...keeps it up for 15-20 minutes sometimes, invariably throwing in an elaborate Kapi

We came for the programme, but car parking took half an hour. listened to thodi sitting outside. Did dharisanam of Mrs. Bombay Jayashree once {like how Nandanar did at Chidambaram } came out, spent another half an hour to take out the car and came home. We have decided for the next programme of Ms. Jayashree we should be present atleast an hour before. For future programmes, Can we suggest that an attendance be kept outside and let the ph no. s of rasikas' members who have attended be mentioned to atleast say hello to each other ?
