Vidushi Prema Rangarajan-Vocal
Smt.Padma Shankar-Violin
Mannarkoil J Balaji-Mridangam

As part of Shivratri Celebrations TAMBRAS organised the above concert at Amarabharathi Kalyana Mandapam, Tiruvanmiyur.
Madam sang the following kritis in praise of Lord Shiva Fitting for the occasion.

Chandrasekara - Chakravaham-Pynganadu RajagopalaiyerParameswara -Nata Dikshitar
Nadatanum Chitaranjani Tyagaraja
Anandanatana Kedaram Dikshitar
Sabhapathi Abogi Gopalakrishna Bharatiyar
Shivadarusana Sudhadanyasi Purandara dasar
Ardha Nariswaram Kumudakriya Dikshitar
Sundareswaruni Sankarabharanam Tyagaraja
Madar Pirai Navroz Appar Thevaram

The highlight of the concert was an excellent Alapana of Shuddha Danyasi wherein she brought out excellent shades and wove grand combinations. I was really appreciative of her high creativity during the Raga Alapana.

When the whole world is looking towards easy methods to attain popularity, Vidushi Prema Rangarajan chose kritis of high value by composers of Great Merit which is quite evident from the above list.

Padma Shankar matched the main artiste in all the areas.

I played a short tani avartanam in Shankarabharanam Kriti.

Of course, a good amount of thought had gone into the selection of krithis.

The first one in Chakravaham is on the Paramacharyal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.

The aspects of Siva as an embodiment of Nadha, as the Divine Dancer, and as Ardhanariswara were presented.

The merits of worshipping Siva on Sivarathri, extolled in the Suddha Dhanyasi krithi was very apt and as J Balaji put it, came out extremely well.

The krithi in Sankarabharanam is from the Kovur Pancharatna.

The last one is the Thevaram sung by Appar in Tiruvaiyaru on his Kailasa Dharisanam.

Balaji has naturally been very modest about his role.. But both Padma and Balaji contributed greatly to the success of the concert.
