it was a great experience.but for one youngster, who has learnt music from smt.balamani (mumbai),shri t.k.govindrao and sanjay, all others were really honest.the overall arrangments including snacks were great.abishek was great.sriranjanee was superb.

I stayed for a few of these programs and agree that the above mentioned were the pick of the crowd. The accompanying artists too contributed to the success of these singers.

thendral03,
I didn't quite understand what you meant. You are definitely talking about Prasanna Venkataraman. He is a very good musician. What did you not like about his music?. I don't think he would be dishonest in his effort.

dear mahesh, there is no doubt his music is good.in vishveshwara, he did not pronounce some words correctly. in another song, he went on singing neelagandam, whereas it should be neelakantham.when pointed out, the reply was evasive and not respectful.i wish him all the best.he is too young and i hope he blossoms.

I agree with thendral about PV.I think the reviews he got about his concerts during dec.season have gone into his head.

Sandhya Sundarajan sang very nicely; a open throated singing but the melody was kept always. She sang a piece in Purva Varali which I think have heard once before many years.

Vijayaraghavan sang nicely although there was a bit of ambiguity in his alapana of Devamanohari.

Abhishek's Pantuvarali had as usual shades of HM but was good. His chaavi-paavi song in Karakarapriya of Neelakantasivan was soulful.

Amrutharanjini it seems is just learning music but has an excellent voice. She sang Kapali in Mohanam beautifully. If she does good practice she can surely emerge as a good singer.

Mahathi's performance was so so.

Sriranjini's vidwat was quite evident in her rendition.

Radha Kalyanaraman sang beautifully with her rich experience. Her Chakravaham was excellent.K.P.Nandini's violin accompaniment was good.

Kudos to Papanasam Kumar for conducting this festival for quite some years.I felt like sitting in my home and listening to concerts.

Dear ganeshkant,

On what basis are you making comments like "the december season reviews have gone into his head?" Do you know him personally or did you talk to him after the concert or what did he do to make you feel this way?

Before making rude comments (like what Ganeshkant said about PV) on somebody, one should actually try and see what would have made PV say anything like that if he really did say something of that sort. It could also be that thendral03 could have misunderstood his reply and also, I guess it would have been late at night and maybe he was in a hurry to go home etc. and did not have the time to respond to the rasikas in the manner he usually does. Anyways, I can say that I know Prasanna since he was a child and I am sure he is not at all like what Thendral03 and Ganeshkant have made him sound like. He is a good, balanced upcoming musician.

Dear Folks,

My sincere apologies to all those who feel my commet about PV was rude .In future I will exercise caution before writing any thing in this column.

PV seems to be a promising young musician and I wish him all the best.

I forgot to write about Dr.Ganesh who sang a few compositions of GKB in typical Maharajapuram style.
The energy dispalyed and tempo maintained at that time ( around 3.30 a.m ) was un believable.Erode Nagaraj & Vittal R accompanied with the same spirit.

we were around 60.of this, me & ganeshkant have different opinions about PV.the beauty of music is this contradicting opinions. i also do not agree with the harsh comments (going to head).they are youngsters and they have to carry on the tradition.bhavyam is the basic requirement of any vidwan which was exhibited by such senior artistes like shri rajaram and smt.Radha Kalyanaraman . no hard feelings and no intention to hurt anybody. let us all enjoy music.

To my ear, Prasanna Venkatraman was the most improved musician of the 2008 season.

therndral03... Please correct the punctuations (proper capitalization and using a single space AFTER punctuation marks and NOT BEFORE) in your post.

On the subject of handling criticism, we are all eager to see how you do.

dear VVS, thank you for your tips on typing posts. For your information, I am a non-Chennai vasi and my age is 57. I am also not a performing artiste. Anyway, criticism need not be restricted to Kutcheries. Even your daily activities may attract criticism. The points mentioned by me were as exchange between rasikas. Thank you again.
