Flute - Violin - Mridangam
Raga Sudha Hall, 19 April 2009

Song list:

karuNimpa - sahAnA varNam - Adi
gaNanAyakam - pUrNaShaDjam - MD - Adi-1
sahasrakara - pantuvarALi - ST - Adi-1 rendition (R, N, S @ second half of caraNam)

A tyAgarAjaswAmi composition in vanaspati, Adi-1 (R)

mOkShamu galadA - sAramati - T - Adi-2 rendition (sketch)
rAja rAja - nirOShTha - HMB - rUpakacApu

A khpriya song in 2-kaLai tiSra Ekam (R, NS somewhere in caraNam, tani)

mahAdEva Siva SambhO - rEvati - Adi-1
---
I reached halfway into the varNam, so there might've been a shlokam or a short sketch before it.

The kritis were all rendered at a leisurely tempo without rushing through, including sahasrakara, which I've heard in Adi-2 also. The neraval and swarams for pantuvarALi were excellent. Violinist gave good replies.

The AlApanai of vanaspati was nice, and the reply was very good. The kriti was very beautifully rendered.

mOkShamu galadA was rendered a little slower than I've heard. I realised I was sitting far from speakers and moved in closer: certain lines in the song have a much deeper impact if played a little more loudly, and I saw that impact was missing. :) I moved in closer, and it was a very wise thing to do.

The initial few phrases of khpriya were a little hard for me to place, but in a short while the essence of khpriya was beautifully brought out in the essay. The violinist gave a nice khpriya. Neraval and swarams were excellent. Violinists replies matched well.

The tani was good, but seemed speeded up from the song.

The sowkhyam in this youngster's music is amazing, and beats all expectations. The violinist and the mridangist did nothing to disturb this sowkhyam, and followed wisely and aptly.

If Nick reads this: I saw the two kittens (the brown-and-white and the black-and-white) playing together.

Was this Muthiah Bhagavathar's sahasrakara mandithe in vAchaspati or Swati Tirunal's sarasAksha in pantuvarAli?

When I heard for many years pariyAchakamA mAta, I knew it was thyagarAja krithi, but after many many years only knew vanaspathi. You are just the ulta ,I guess of me.
The krithi is likely pariyAcakamA mATa - T

Sorry, it was ST's sarasAkSha.

I must also mention the fluid movements Sruthi Sagar made in the vanaspati (mgrs) and nirOShTha kritis (gdn). They were very nice. Are they a speciality of flute?

Probably.

But the neraval and swarams had some tricky eDuppu. Someone else who attended can clarify.

Rajesh, the vanaspati kriti was announced, kriti, raga and composer, but I unfortunately didn't hear the kriti's name properly. rAjarAja was also announced similarly.

@ Rajesh

I could figure it was set to the 4th mela karta (believing that to not have an almost 4th mela karta like janya like chakravaham-vegavahini). But I didn't know the name. (I still haven't memorised the kaTapayAdi formula, but can tell what swarasthanams mean what mela karta number.)
