Tour of Vidwan R Suryaprakash to South Africa

The popular vocalist R. Suryaprakash will be performing under the auspices of The Indian Academy Of South Africa at The Heritage Series Swami Thyagaraja Festival 2009 on Sunday, the 17th May 2009 at Durban.

Suryaprakash will perform on Friday(at Durban), Saturday (at Peter Moritzburg) and Sunday (at he main festival at Durban). He will be accompanied by B Raghavendra Rao on the violin and D A Srinivas on the mridangam.

The other concert for the festival will be by the famous group "Three" consisting of flautist Naveen, Raghavendra Rao and D A Srinivas, all from Chennai.

There will also be local participation, the notable concert being that of vocalist Karthikesan Pillay.

Thank you for letting us know of the festival in SA. Good to hear that Suryaprkash is performing there. Is it his first concert series in SA, I wonder. We also know Kartigeisan from discussions in the forum a few years ago. We heard a lot from others, but not his music then! Please let us have a chance to hear him this time.

Zulu, are you from Durban? Can you let us know how the concert went? Quite curious to know the mix of audience here and how they respond - i mean apart from the Indian crowd.

D A SrinivAs is a disciple of Madurai Shri Srinivasan, mrudangam vidwan and composer. (karuNai dheivamE is one). He plays mrudangam for films too like his guru and he takes part in fusion music too. Recently, he played in vijay tv for airtel super singer too. His better half, puNyA srinivas is a well known veena artiste.
