Requested translation of the above song by vijaya viTThala svAmi. Thank you in advance.

p. sadA enna hr.dayadalli vAsamADO ShrI harE

a. nAdamUruti ninna pAda mOdadinda bhajisuvE

c1. jn~Anavembo navaratnada maNTapada madhyadali
gAnalOlana kuLLirisi dhyAnadinda bhajisuvE

c2. bhakti rasavembO muddu mANikyada arivANAdi
muktanAga bEku endu muttinArati ettuvE

c3. ninna nAnu biDuvanalla enna nInu bidudapalli
pannaga Shayana vijayaviThThala kELO ninna bhaktara solla

KMRasika Sir,

I do not believe I can bring out the beauty of the original sAhitya in my attempt to translate this pada from vijayadAsa, a haridAsa known for his mastery over the language and richness of imagination.

p. sadA enna hr.dayadalli vAsamADO ShrI harE (or hari)
(SrI hari, always reside in my heart)

a. nAdamUruti ninna pAda mOdadinda bhajisuvE
(epitome of nAda, I pray to your feet with delight)

c1. jn~Anavembo navaratnada maNTapada madhyadali
gAnalOlana kuLLirisi dhyAnadinda bhajisuvE

(I will have to summarize this caraNa1, it's very challenging for me!)
at the center of this mantapa of a gem called knowledge,
placing you, nAdalOla, meditating upon you, I pray


c2. bhakti rasavembO muddu mANikyada arivANAdi
muktanAga bEku endu muttinArati ettuvE

in this basket (harivANa, not arivANa) called devotion (bhakti rasa) made of pearl (muttu) and ruby (mANikya),
seeking salvation (mukti), I offer, muttinArati (the traditional Arati, again, calling it an Arati of pearls!)

c3. ninna nAnu biDuvanalla enna nInu bidudapalli (I have heard biDalu salla)
pannaga Shayana vijayaviThThala kELO ninna bhaktara solla

I am not the one to let go of you, and You shall not desert me (or it's not right for you to desert me)
Oh, pannaga shayana vijayaviThThala, listen to your devotes' word.

I hope this helps! I enjoyed this attempt but feeling sad that shamefully, I have lost much of comfort level with my dear kannaDa language.

That was a very nice translation nevertheless - :)

I have a question - doesn't 'mOdadinda' mean more than just delight - sort of 'enraptured'?

Thanks!

I did debate with myself on your point before deciding to go with delight.

However, I decided to go with mOda = delight, joy based on the online english-sanskrit dictionary.

Finally, I concluded that enraptured, enchanted and such would be apt for mOha which is not the same as mOda.

Just remembered that Pandit Bhimsen Joshi has rendered (beautifully, of course!) this song in darbAri kAnaDa in the album titled "enna pAlisO karuNakara", a collection of various dAsara padas, sung in bhajan style.

'harivANa' is the plate specifically used for placing the offerings during the worship.

Dear Sreeni Sir:

Thank you for a lovely translation! This dAsara pada definitely exemplifies "mAnasa pUjA" in which ShrI vijayadAsa exults himself in the worship of hari(indeed he is a master of the language!!!). I guess the muttinahArati here in modern times refers to that in a plate where different coloured kumkum powders are placed sectioned by glued tiny balls rolled out of flour(called muttAlatti in tamizh), which is waved in front of a deity.
