Re: lyrics request: Sapasyath KausalyaHere is my attempt: I think this describes the scene in the labour room before Lord Rama was born-Mother Kausalya is having the vision of the child to be born. This is what I infer from the words.Corrections/clarifications welcome.

sA (a)pashyat kausalyA -She(Kausalya) saw
viSNum sA (a)pashyat kausalyA-vishNu, (kausalya saw vishNu)
C1: prasava sadana gatha mEnam- him, who had gone into the labour room
pUSpAyuta shata kOTi samAnam viSNum -who was as beautiful as crores of manmatha
- sA (a)pashyat-she saw(him)
2: jaladhara shyAmaLa gAtram -whose body was dark blue in colour like the sky
pankEruhadaLa sannibha nEtram-whose eyes were like the lotus petals
viSNum - sA (a)pashyat-she saw (that)vishNu
3: kaustubha shobhita kandham -whose neck was adorned by the kaustubha hAram
rAkA candra nibham vaikuNTham - who was like the full moon, the vaikuNtavAsi

Mother Kausalya beheld Sri Vishnu in a vision during labor, He appeared so beautiful, equal to the beauty of millions of Cupids, with the body matching the color of deep blue water-bearing clouds, eyes shaped like the petals of lotus blossoms, His neck wearing the shining kaustubha jewels, this Vishnu from Vaikuntha who would dim the brightest of moons...................

I just heard SSI sing this song....lasting 19.35 mins. The actual song itelf, lines quoted here, barely occupies the last 4-5 mins. The entire time preceding the song is a great narrative in sloka format......very beautifully sung by SSI..... (would love to have these lyrics as well ).......as it builds up the expectation of the Lord, the prelude to the arrival of Sri Rama on this earth, the wonder-child of Mother Kausalya.......that exquisite child steeped in compassion and virtues........the prelude says this child waiting to be born.... is one who would do this this and all this in the course of His life....summarizing the entire life-span of the numerous noble deeds and qualities exhibited by this Vishnu gracing the earth as Sri Rama.

I can not see the connection between '(a)pashyat and paschAt; if the word is taken as paschAt, then there should be another verb to complete the meaning; otherwise it will remain as 'sA paschAt-she, afterwards'. What did she do afterwards?
Since I feel it is a vision mother KausalyA had before the birth of rAma, I feel it is
' whose neck is adorned by the kaustibha hAram'.

It is actually sA+apashyat-she saw. In fact in an earlier thread, where I gave the meaning. there is a lengthy discussion on it. You can try using the 'search' facility.

1.pUSpAyuta should be puShpAyudHa meaning cupid (of the flowery weapons)

2. sannibha means 'like' or 'resembling'[ it belongs to the set of words like Abha, nibha, sankAsha,tulya,samAna all of which indicate a simile..]

3. kandham should be kaNTam..

sA apashyat is correct.. besides the fact that it is logically correct, there is the alternate proof, that the song would be verb-less if it were pascAt, which was a big no-no..

It could be, from the meaning perspective, it is perfectly correct.. but look at the rhythmic structure of the previous charaNams:

1. ...gataM-EnaM ...samAnaM

2. ...gAtraM ...nEtraM

hence, it is only logical that it be ..kaNTHaM ...vaikuNTHaM
