Thank goodness there are so many Nicks with an interest in carnatic music, and I can remain certain of my anonymity!
There are many good reasons for
not publishing one's actual identity
anywhere on the internet. Even though a small forum may appear to be a fairly close community, it is open to the entire world, and, thanks to google, easily accessible.
but
I met a fellow forumite at this year's Cleveland Arasdhana who refused to give not only the real name but even the user name from the site.
I wonder if he tells his workmates who he is? Or his family? This seems to be taking anonymity too far!
The only time I find anonymity confusing on the forum is when our music-professional members post with the assumption that we know who they are. Mridangam, for instance, sings his posts, so the confusion does not arise. Professionals are entitled to anonymity too --- but then they should not expect to be recognised!
