Smt.Ponnamaal is indeed a versatile artist and astonishing at her age. I had the privilage to attend a couple of her concerts at Chennai and it was mind boggling to listen such vintage music with classicalism intact.......

Hari,
Good to know you are listening to the Navaratri Mandapam concerts.
Listening to Parassala Ponnammal is an experience in itself. In a way, I will not call it vintage music because it is living music which pulsates with the classicism of the old days. She creates a calmness around her. Music flows out of her like a soothing brook...

What a lovely list!!

pAhi parvatanandini mAmayi is one of my favorites in ArabhI - the song always evokes memories of Smts. Kamala, Vasanti and Rhadha dancing to it.

I hadn't remembered the opener of the concert 'sArasa suvadana' in kalyANi until now! A gem, indeed! With her, it would have been spun silk. I say this because even after all these years, I'm reminded of the way that kalyANi of ST unfurls itself. Lyrics and music mesh magically in that song. My guess is that HMB set it to tune

Thanks devi. What a lovely list. Arabhi is simply superb.

Also I have seen in another post that Ponnammal teacher's national program concert in Doordarshan would be re-telecased by Doordarsan tomorrow (1 -10 - 2009) at 7AM on DD Malayalam.
