Here is my attempt at trying to capture in rather prosaic English the intense fervor of Sri nIlakanTha Sivan's words. I was exhausted after the first caraNam...

This (iduvE), the duty (kaDamai) we (nAm) perform (Seyyum), is the conduct prescribed (dharmam) by Siva, that is certain to bring (tarum) us lasting fame (perumai) both in this world (iha) and the next (param).

pugazhum poruLgaL peTRum inda bhUmikku shumai AgAmal
tigazhum tirunIlakaNThan tiruvaDit-toNDukkALAgudal (iha param"¦)
Even after obtaining (peTRum) fame (pugazhum) and material wealth (poruLgaL), the opportunity to become the means (ALAgudal) to perform service (toNDukku) at the divine (tiru) feet (aDi) of the resplendent (tigazhum) Lord nIlakaNThan, without becoming (AgAmal) a burden (Sumai) for this (inda), earth (bhUmikki) to bear (is our duty to perform, the conduct prescribed by Siva, and a means to lasting fame both in this world and the next).

In this world (ulagil), surrounded (sUzh) by raging (pongu) seas (kaDal), of what (enna) use (payan) will this (idanAl) lifetime spent in searching (tEDi) for wealth (poruL), and burying (pudaittu vaittum) it safely, and adorning (pUNa vaittum) our women (mangaiyarkum) and children (makkaLukkum) with jewelry (paNigaL) made from priceless gems (maNi) be at the time (pOdil) and place (angu) of reckoning, when we die and become (Agum) corpses (piNam) and realize that everything (ellAm) we’ve been beholding/appreciating (kAnbadu) to our heart’s/eye’s (kaN) content (kuLira) is turning into a nightmare/dream (kanavAi)? Who (Ay) will be our companion (tuNaiyAm) at that time? If one has not discharged (SeyyArEl) their moral duty (aRam), then, it is appropriate/becoming (muRai AguvadE) for human beings (nararkku) to love (anbu SeiguvadE) Siva (hararkku). Performing (puriguvadE) acts of service (paNigaL) to the almighty (tiru) is the means to obtaining great (perutta) moral virtue (puNNiyam).
