This concert was organized by ananthaswami centre(the patron usually conducts concerts on bhagwan ramanar). GV started with a varnam I think it is AbhOgi ,the voice could have opened out little more and also the volume is bit muffled. The satre vilagi rendition with a neraval and swaras had more charm only in her krithi rendition to an extent the neraval and the subsequent swaras were not that expansive
THe pick of the day was her kEdaram , it was emotive and her diction was excellent , her preceding raga alApana was concise and aesthetically apt. The krithi had a very short burst of swaras it appeared she wanted to sing a neraval but later she changed her mind.
A rare devamanOhari was a fast filler and was quite good. The next swarajathi was perhaps the second best pick she rendered it very well . A rare kalyani unfolded with a bhagwan ramanar krithi and was quite good.
The main in kharaharapriyA had an alApana more centered on the jiva piDi's of the rAgA it was quite fast and well done . THe krithi was very good with the neraval and swaras had a very good finish. The last two were well done one was like killikani , a folkish number and the other was very brief . I wished her tukkadas were little more and absence of viruththam / slokham was felt.
Padma shankar had a very minimal play and returns only her kharaharapriya was prominent and she did play very well there. balAji did lifted the concert his anticipation and controlled aggression lifted the concert , also his aesthetics was very apt to the mood of the song. ghatam support could have been more expressive during songs but his tani play was quite good .
Few things to ponder by GV:
---------------------------
Musicians must focus on both emotive quotient and to a great extent equally on the expansive quotient . Particularly felt GV excelling more in emotive side , would have loved the concert much more if there was more sangathis in both sub main and main to bring in more classical quotient.
Overall a very good concert for 2 hours.
BTW let me also debut the panic index score(this is just empirical based on what I wrote before) : 1
