Heard this song "kai vidamaataan kanaka sabesan" long time back but not able to place this in terms of composer etc. I think it is in Valachi ragam . It would be great if someone can post lyrics, meaning and a link to the song

Enna-solven - the lyrics as provided in that link are not clear at all. If Lji has the lyrics, I can try to give the meaning.

Ravi,

this is what I could interpret from the last post by 'sudhaamaa' in that link: it's a tough one for me to attempt, see if you can translate now!

Sridhar/Lji, Thanks for the lyrics.

I find teh caraNam as is difficult to interpret. I wonder if we are missing a line(s), or if the words are not completely correct. Anyway, here goes. Corrections, comments welcome.

pallavi
kai viDa mATTAn kanaka sabhEshan unnai kAttiDuvAn kaNNAl pArttiDuvAn nenjE

Oh mind/heart/consciousness (nenjE) of mine! The Lord (ISan) of the golden (kanaka) hall (sabhA) in caidambaram, naTarAja, will never forsake (kai viDa mATTAn) [1] you. He will always protect (kAttiDuvAn) you (unnai), and always keep you in his line of sight (kaNNAl pArttiDuvAn) [2].

anupallavi
seigai arindum avan seigaiyin tiram tanai vaiyagattOr kANa deiva sabhA nAthan (kai viDa mATTAn"¦)

Even after understanding (arindum) our deeds (Seigai), in order for the people of this world (vaiyagattOr) to appreciate/realize/see (kANA) the excellence/quality (tiram tanai) of his (avan) acts (Seigaiyin), the divine (deiva) lord (nAthan) of the golden hall (sabhA) (will never forsake you"¦)

caraNam
mAniDar arivinil kUriDum poigaiyil tAn ivar vasippavar Agilum pOduvinil
nAnilattOr kANa nATTiyam ADiDum shAnta mUrtiyai dhyAnitt-iruppAi AnAl (kai viDa mATTAn"¦)

Even though (Agilum) this Lord (ivar) takes up residence (vasippavar) only (tAn) in the torrents (poigayil) created/stated (kURiDum) in the minds/conscious thoughts/intelligence (arivinil) of humans (mAniDar), you, my mind, if you meditate (dhyAnittu iruppAi AnAl) upon the peaceful/patient (SAnta) dancing (nATTiyam ADiDum) form (mUrtiyai) he assumes to enable the common (poduvinil) man (nAnilaTTOr) to perceive/see/visualize (kANa) him. (Oh mind/heart/consciousness of mine! The Lord of the golden hall in caidambaram, naTarAja, will never forsake you. He will always protect you, and always keep you in his line of sight).

FOOTNOTES
[1] kai viDa mATTAn literally means 'He will not (mATTAn) let go (viDa) of your hand (kai)'
[2] When the lord beholds (pArttiDuvAn) one with his eyes (kaNNAl), he showers immeasurable grace on that person. In fact, even a glance from the corner of the Lord's eyes is thought to be enough to grant untold benefits, let alone a full glance

EDITED with input from Punarvasu

Still not sure about kURiDum vs. UriDum

I think the caaraNam should be
mAniDa aRivil Uridum poygaiyil'
since the word poygai refers to a water body, the word should be UriDum.
Probably the meaning of the caraNam must be,
'though he is the Lord residing the pond of human intellect(meaning within oneself), HE is there dancing in the kanakasabhai ,for the common man to see and if you meditate on this shAntamUrthi, (HE will not forsake you).
Probably what the composer wants to convey that the LORD is not accessible only to the intellectual, but HE is there for the common man also and all one has to do is take the first step of meditating on HIM and HE will take the remaining steps and protect his devotee.

Punarvasu - if we carry that logic forward, shouldn't the last word be AdanAl, and not AnAl....

rshankar, I do not understand.
Does not 'shAnta mUrttiyai dhyAnittiruppAi AnAl'-( IF you meditate upon the shAntamUrti') make sense? It sounds ok to me.

Aruna Sairam's Madhurasmriti CD attributes this song to Kallal Ramanathan.

This is what she sings. Differences highlighted.

P: kai viDa mTTAn kanaka sabhEshan unnai left out kAttiDuvAn kaNNAl pArttiDuvAn nenjE
A: seigai arindEn avan seigaiyin tiram tanai vaiyagattOr kANa deiva sabhA nAthan
C: mAniDar arivinil kUriDum poighaiyil tAn ivar vasippavar Aghilum pOduminO
nAnilattOr kANa nATTiyam AdiDum sAhitya/sAhrdya not clear mUrtiyai dhyAnitt-iruppAi AnAl

But, she has sung this song beautifully :)

In the last line of the charanam the word is not sahitya or sahrdya but the correct word is sannidhya murthiyay
