National programme veena concert
Mrs Maheswari Venkitaraman i selected for National programme of music , being a desciple of Mr. Tirupanandl Shanmuga Sundaram Pillai, Mrs. Kamala Ashwathama and Mr. J. Venkataraman it is veery suitable as to respect the talented artist. Mrs. E. Gayathrai Madam broad mindly used to say Mrs Maheswari Venkitaraman as a fantastic artist in public, who else will be like to tellthis frankness and meritorious appreciation, she is really a great artist with broad mind to encourage talented this visually challenged veena artist

Re: National programme veena concert
Your message is not very clear. Are you saying Mrs. Maheswari Venkatraman is already selected to give a national program or are you recommending that she should be selected? If it is the former then she is already recognized. If it is the latter this forum cannot do anything. Mrs. Gayathri (if she has endorsed Mrs. Venkatraman, as you say) can recommend to the appropriate officials in AIR and wait for the outcome.
I wonder what else you expect to do in this forum. If she is personally known to you it is not a bad idea to promote her. I'd suggest you do it where you can get results instead of just expressing your opinion here.

thank you mr mahakavi, it is not thaat somebody was discussing the merit and demerit of the artist under the heading visually challenged to get a chancae in (lady artists)navarathrimandapam in Trivandrum she not such an artist and already having lot of meritorial qualifications You are scribbling something non-related, Mrs. Maheswari is an A grade Staff Aratist of All India Radio, Madurai, serving , now 18 years,if she understood she could procede for an insult against handicapped and take suitable action, if told this matter to mrs. gayathri madam, mahakavi wrote:Your message is not very clear. Many members bring new names to the forum for discussion --- sometimes to discover that they are well-know to other members, sometimes not. However, none of us are here to advance the careers of artist: we are not sabha secretaries or artist managers and, frankly, telling us how wonderful this lady is will not advance her career one jot.
A lot of us have our favourite artists, and a few of us may mention one or two of them rather more often than others. You are welcome to share your enthusiasm for this, or any other artist, here, but please consider that a stream of what appears to be promotion (with very little actual content) is about as interesting as the commercial breaks in a movie on the TV.

Are you in second grade? Please stand up on the bench (for talking out of turn) and please keep standing until you are permitted to sit down. Rank subordination is not permitted here, you know. Don't forget to memorize the multiplication table while standing. Good boy!

Agreed, two things irk you: promotional hype and, uh, language. Instead of putting a stop to both, you are inviting more of it
Seriously, I would also call it a bit rude.
r_t,
Your asking for a recording was a good thing.
Wanting to listen to CM is a good thing. Wanting to listen to a recording of good CM is better, as the rasikas seem to agree upon elsewhere
and whether rasikas agree on or not on other things, most of them have expressed their solidarity there which wasn't forthcoming when a genuine rasika was skewered last year

When this issue came up at rasikapriya.net a whole bunch of us reacted against such high-handed approach of the duo and their lawyers. I don't understand what is meant by "...wasn't forthcoming .....was skewered last year". We came to know of the incident only after the submission of the apology in different forums by the affected rasika. We raised a hue and cry. That rasika was so intimidated that he never posted again. He just disappeared. Some of us (especially one V. Hariharan) investigated the possibility of a legal remedy. As of now with the new article in question, he is resurrecting the whole issue and he is ready to take the other party head on. He is seeking moral, vocal, and possibly financial (if needed) support.arasi wrote:....whether rasikas agree on or not on other things, most of them have expressed their solidarity there which wasn't forthcoming when a genuine rasika was skewered last year

Bilahari,
What difference does it make, one way or the other? After all, he was not reprimanded by anyone on the Rasikas. As for the duo, they don't own Rasikas. They are not participants here either.
Mahakavi,
Answer to your query: Sorry, I was not clear in my post about the humiliation of the said rasikA. I must say that I was only speaking about 'this' forum.

Arasi, it does make a difference because it is not the truth. Hari was not intimidated into oblivion and I also wish people would stop saying he was 'humiliated', etc. It was TMK and VS who came out of that fiasco looking pitifully small. They attempted to humiliate him but failed miserably. I am also surprised that you think we were not supportive enough of Hari here. What exactly led you to that conclusion, may I ask?

Re: National programme veena concert
Bilahari,
Let me go over it again: seeing all the surge of support in the past few days for the rights of rasikas as a whole made me recall that Hari, an individual rasikA did not have the same kind of overwhelming support then on the forum--I cannot locate the thread where it was all discussed to remember the details. Yes, you are right. They were the ones who tried to humiliate him but do you think that in a situation like that, one would and could walk away from the scene without being affected by it?
So, it's a pity if he stopped posting here as a result of it all. If he has come back, it's good news. Supposing he has, he might not want to be recognized in his new persona, don't you think? Then again, may be I'm wrong. I don't think I'd like it if someone says, 'will the real Hari stand up?' next.
I don't know how he will take it if he's' around. What if he wants to beat a retreat? Is that what we are looking for?
Then again, this is my personal view. There! Iv'e said it to the best of my ability

I am not saying he was not affected by it. But I AM saying that he was not cowed down by them as mahakavi insinuated.
Also, the apology thread in our forum was closed and had even disappeared within a day or two after it was started, leaving many of us no opportunity to publicly condemn TMK-VS. But perhaps in your infinite kindness you understand that not all sympathy and scorn needs to be shared publicly on this forum!
I just think you're being uncharacteristically harsh on this group.
As for your last point, I entirely agree. It is not my intention to 'out' Hari if he's posting on this forum/rasikapriya/wherever. If that is what it seemed like to you, I am sorry.

Bilahari,
Yes, we understand each other, I think!
If I sounded harsh, it's possible that the weather isn't agreeable. We are experiencing very hot and humid days which don't seem to end. Darn! Whatever the climate is like at the forum too, I'll say this.: MAS is not a bad thing as some make it out to be. We all have a few admirable qualities, each one of us--one of them being the ability to appreciate whatever we find admirable in others. MAS is a good thing! And it fortifies the forum with positive energy. You know I'm not talking about that soppy, weepy ;( , sentimental stuff.
So, here goes: your reviews are awsome to start with

OK, r-t, it is now your turn to stand up on the bench and repeat "I shall not use the name of Madam in vain" 100 times. If you do not want to recite that 100 times, your option is to stretch your palm out for 100 cane lashes. Now pick your choice.

Mahakavi, I believe drinking water helps digest the sand that you ate in Step 1 of your punishment. So, it is not really as bad (or dangerous) as it sounds. As classroom punishments go, this one seems to be more benign. Certainly not as bad as "getting reported to madam". And trust me when I say this as I've been asked to "report to madam's office" many a time during my schooldays. Now, "reporting to madam's office" is invariably followed by "get this notice signed by your parents by tomorrow" which leads one to put on a Sivaji Ganesan style drama that evening at home in order to get it signed.mahakavi wrote:sramesh sir:

If I were you I wouldn't stage any such drama. I'd just scribble my parent's signature without hesitation. In addition I'd type a note to the madam (in the name of my parent and the same scribbled signature, of course) to subject me to a further punishment of eating sand and drinking water in the class itself. Let us wait out and see how long it takes to digest the sand. I promise you it will exit undigested in no time. Actually, come to think of it, it might cleanse your colon too. So it is a blessing in disguise.
(srameshsir: pl note.)
Now I can report to madam's office on my own.

Now look here, if you don't behave, I will report you all to Madam. Yes, and that applies to each of you: mk, bhavarasa, kssr, mankuthimma, nick, ksrimech, even you arasi!
