mruga nayanA and other compositions of the nATya sangIt genre (I was introduced to this genre a few years ago by none other Kji) are, IIUC, composed situationally, and therefore can be in reference to a deity, or to a character as the situation demands.
Lji - question for you - AhlAdaka mukha - I thought it meant a joy-giving (AhlAdaka) face (mukha).
As an aside, does AhlAda also mean manmatha? In the lakshmi asTOtara, one of her names is 'AhlAda janani' which I have always assumed to be the same as 'manmatha janani'.

The doe-eyed beauty who is being described here must have captured the composer's imagination - enriched (sampanna) with newly-acquired (nava) youth (yauvana), she shines/illuminates (vilAsini) with her beautiful/captivating (ramya) gait (gati)!! And not just that, she is a great singer (madhura AlApini) too, from whose glances the essence of love gushes forth!

A very sensuous intimate song piece - which is more than that it seems - acknowledging a beauty who kindles his passion/desire (kamini hOti)...earlier she was described as the doe-eyed beauty, whose fresh youth (nava youvana) captures (mohini) him, the enjoyer (rasika). This soft, beautiful (manjula) sweet (madhura) singer (AlApini), is one who responds unleashing the nectar (rasA) of her own love (prEma) for him with her glance (drUsti).

The dwelling on her beauty, repeatedly, tracing her shapely eyes, moving on to her radiant face, watching her delightful gait, her glowing youth, enjoying the sweetness in her singing, elicits the bold acknowledgment in response, as the rasika declares how deeply he is in love, intoxicated with her. This, is conveyed through a song sung beautifully, from one singer to another, in an open manner. Incredibly sensuous.

Agree - I think whether it is fresh or newly-acquired, I think the reference is to a maiden in the first bloom of youth (the tamizh word for that would be 'paruvam', I think).

The freshness of youth, is akin to the glow of the first flush or bloom, or, even the spring of her youth. Certainly never, "newly acquired". :tmi:

"Newly acquired" suggests a beauty (of youth), that was not there before but one that has appeared now. Freshness acknowledges the presence of beauty, if dormant, all along, now in its first flush of bloom.
