I'm teaching - hopefully all 39 - diikshitar's noTTusvarangal kritis to two children. Before we learn each kriti however, I try to translate or find translations of them so that the children know what it is they are singing. We're going to be working on he maaye soon, and this is what I have been able to figure out so far. I'd be grateful if folks more knowledgeable than me would offer alternatives to the translation I've provided! As it is, I am only missing 2 words: kaahitvam - and - yaahi.
the text:
he maaye maam baadhitum
kaahitvam kaahitvam yaahi yaahi
kaamaakshii kaanchiipuranaayakii rakshitum ehi ehi
kaamakoTiishvarii kaamitaartha prade ekaamranaatheshvarii paahi paahi
kaama sanjiivinii sevita srii guro kaulini memudam dehi dehi
my attempt at translation:
he maaye maam baadhitum
He maaye, why do you bother me?
kaahitvam kaahitvam yaahi yaahi
?
kaamaakshii kaanchiipuranaayakii rakshitum ehi ehi
kaamaakshii, chief of kanchiipuram, save me, come to me, save me!
kaamakoTiishvarii kaamitaartha prade ekaamranaatheshvarii paahi paahi

kaama sanjiivinii sevita srii guro kaulini memudam dehi dehi
