There are going to be so many of us, and many may not know each other by sight: maybe we should write our names on a small paper and pin to our shirts.

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
I suggest that we have a front desk to register the name (we may provide our rasika id), location and e.mail id. I will volunteer to send the compiled data and picture to all participants. This will help us to be in touch with each other privately if required in future.

I'm jealous. I just started work and the institute has a rule that new employees can't take leave for three months, so I will unfortunately miss this season. Hope all of you have fun and take a lot of pictures (and audio clippings) for us absentees!

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
Dear RASIKAS,
As suggested by Mr.Nick, it would be better if all the forumites wear an identification slip
pinned to their shirts to know quickly the individual members.
The format may be as follows.
1. User ID.
2. Real name.
3. Country and state from which they are coming.
4. Forumites coming from India may provide their Phone/Mobile NO. If they wish.
Any other information’s suggested by other Rasikas.
A note book will be provided at the entrance of the Hall so that the Rasikas attending the meet can provide the above information’s.
Further suggestions are welcome.

Now that the lunch has been dispensed with, I suggest that we have a coffee/snacks break for 15-20 minutes. I will be happy to sponsor this and shall work out the logistics after I reach Chennai on 13th Dec.

VKV,
My very thoughts--echoed by music_is_life. If there is time (that has to come from you), we can have a break and we can provide refreshments. In the past, some of us have gone on to have lunch together, but I don't think I can do it this time since I'm going to a concert soon after. Please let us know. I do not know if this is allowed in Raga Sudha hall, either.

Dear music is life & Arasi,
THANKS for your initiative& kindness in offering to provide a coffee break which actually could turn out to be the Highlight!......
I will definitely include a half hour break for this Good Cause where we can discuss the merits&superiority(?) of Madras Coffee among other topics!
As I am still in USA may be Sri.S.Nageswaran can discuss Raga Sudha Hall's policy ion this with SMT.Jaya? I certainly will do so when I reach Chennai on NOV 22 if this protocol is not resolved by then. In the meanwhile pl do the three way co-ordination among you three.....GOOD LUCK, VKV

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
Dear Rasikas,
During the last year meet held at my home, we had Biscuit, coffee and tea served at
11.30. Hrs and had arranged a sumptuous lunch by U/S and I was happy to bear the cost of the same. Shamiana, 50 chairs and 10 dining tables were arranged
for the meet at the terrace of my home. However, overnight rain has made us have our meet in the hall [Water dripping from the Shamiana]. Since more Rasikas have indicated
to attend the meet this year, I had to look out for an alternative place for the meet.
However my happiness in booking the Ragasuda Hall evaporated when the restrictions
by the hall management indicated that coffee/tea break and lunch at the hall is not
permitted. The original concessional rent agreed while booking of Rs.3000/= was also
Hiked to Rs.5000/= since we will be using the hall for 4 Hrs from 09.30 Hrs to 13.30 Hrs.
[The concessional rate is applicable only for concerts]. If we want have
lunch at the venue, the hall rent will be Rs.10, 000/= Hence we are constrained to forego lunch after the meet.
I am taking care for the hall rent payment.
After the arrival of Sri VKV, he can try to convince the hall management to at least permit us to have coffee/tea at the hall itself.
If not, we can go out for 15 to 30 mins and take them near the park compound opposite
to the hall premises.

VKV,
Thank you!
Nageswaran,
That was quick work. Thanks! I am not sure how many people can stay for lunch. I have a feeling there may not be many. Let's know the numbers first. You have the super idea of adjourning to the park for tea/coffee. We can bring the edibles (all that to consider after we know how many are going to turn up, closer to the date). The hall fee can be shared by us too--you have done more than your share last year

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
Nageswara Rao Park has some fairly restrictive opening hours: I have a doubt that it is open at the time that people are lunching. Maybe some passing person could check the board at the entrance?
There is a tiny tea shop on Luz Church Road, a few minutes walk away, but it has only three tables and they are often occupied. Also I noticed, when drinking their good chai last week, that they serve non-veg food.
Anyway, we must respect the hall restrictions. Whilst I have no idea why they should restrict tea/coffee, I am far to fond of Ragasudha Hall, Naada Inbam, and Jaya to make any issue of it!
But... if a chai wallah could be persuaded to turn up at a given time, maybe across the road on the corner...
I really appreciate Sri Nageswaran's generosity, on this and other occasions, but fairly substantial expense is obviously involved, and I think that the least we can do is have a contributions box.

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
Dear arasi, Nick and other Rasikas,
It is a pleasure to be closely associated with sharing and promoting of music.
The inspiration comes from the benevolent Coolji who was happy in sharing his music collections to all the members of this forum.
The senior forumite and philosopher, the respected cm lover had contributed in encouraging young forumites like the U/S to contribute their services for the promotion of music.
The emotional speech of Sri cmlover during his visit to attend the forum concert of Sri Srirangachari at my home in 1977 is the other factor for me to involve
myself in extending a helpful hand to the extent possible.
Sri cmlover had mentioned in his speech†We have enjoyed the music for the past few decades which had given us immense pleasure throughout our life. Now it is our duty to give back and extend our efforts to pass on to our younger generations the highly cultural heritage of music to the maximum extentâ€.
I had nurtured a wish of sponsoring one music concert with a sumptuous dinner after the
concert every year. Now I am happy that I am able to fulfill my wish.
Thank you arasi and Mr. Nick for your kind expression of sharing my contribution.
Allow me to enjoy……….

Dear Shri. Nageswaran,
After reading your reply, I feel really privileged to be part of this forum. All of us seem to share a deep passion for our music which is the common ground even though we live far away and pursue different career. Carnatic music pulled me up when I was at the lowest point imaginable in my life and in my own little way, I have been trying to give back. After I reach Chennai on 13th Dec, I will call you to offer any help you may require with the logistics. If I have inadvertently hurt you without knowing the entire background, please accept my apologies.
Regards,
Music_is_life

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
Nageswaran,
Friendship knows no bounds, whatever language we speak, wherever we live on earth, and who so ever happens to come into our lives, offering friendship. Love for our country (with some of us, the beloved country of our origins) cannot be measured by our sentimental expressions alone. It goes deeper than that. Our formative years, our family ties and friendships are profound, indeed. The cultural connections are powerful too. Just as some friends from our younger days still remain friends after years of separation and we come together as if the gaping years of absence did not matter at all, so it is with our cultural bonds.
Here on Rasikas, that's what unites us. Without being sentimental, I can say this: there is a confluence of many different individuals, coming from diverse backgrounds, feeling as if we are one--merely by the magic of our music appreciation!
In our early years of living away from India, when there were hardly any indians in a given city, if we heard an indian language spoken, or saw a sari-clad woman in a distance, we would get excited, hurry across to find the source and to say hello. I feel the same rush when we get together--music being the binding factor, however differtent we all may be, however different our taste, age and personalities are.
CML not only spoke so eloquently for us, he lives it. I shall miss him at Ragasudha on the 19th, so would many others. It is heartening to know that several other rasikAs are looking forward to this meeting.
Again, what a long way we have come, when (was it Bharath?) went with a bag of mixture at the appointed meeting hour, waited for a few rasikAs to turn up, but there was just one (who?), and the two happily chatted over that bag of mixture!
I wish and pray that the RasikAs community multiplies and flourishes in the years to come. Hope I live to see the day when hundreds of us meet under a huge shamiana to feel our oneness. iSai mazhai allowed in, not the pelting rain

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
I think it is an wonderful idea to meet.
I hope to joining in as well.
However, there is yet another issue with the venue. During some casual talk with Smt. Jaya of Nada Inbam, she was telling me about the request from Sri Nageswaran for Jan 19th 2011. When i retorted saying it must be Dec 19th 2010, she says she has concerts lined-up in the mornings during her december festival and Raga Sudha Hall is not free for that day.
I think there is some communication gap between Smt. Jaya and Sri Nageswaran on the date.

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
DREAM SHATTERED - WE WILL STILL CONDUCT OUR GLOBAL MEET AT MY HOME ON 19.12.2010.
Dear Rasikas,
After the information given by Sri R.Bharath about the wrong booking of date at the Ragasuda Hall on 19.01.2010 instead of 19.12.2010., I was about to call Mrs.Jayalakshmi.
I got the call from Mrs. Jayalakshmi informing me that the hall was booked for our meet on 19.01.2011.
Well, even if you call me from my deep sleep, I would be telling the date of our meet
on 19.12.2010. I was so much involved in making the arrangements for the meet to
to be held successfully.
I would have spoken to Mrs. Jayalakshmi quite a number of times. And none of us had any doubt about the date[both of us thinking about different dates].
Mrs. Jayalakshmi is always considerate with our organization and she always offers a confessionals rate.
We will try to forget this incident and try to move on.
Even though many of the Rasikas would be disappointed with this development,
I will try to make the best of my efforts to book a decent hall for the meet.
If this is not successful, we can conduct our meet at the terrace of my home with
water proof Shamiana with adequate chairs, tables and Jamakalams.
You will have coffee, tea and biscuits served at 11.30.Hrs and a sumptuous lunch provided, courtesy Sri Vishnuprasad.
We will march on.

No problem: once an initial misunderstanding like this happens, it gets perpetuated, and he last thing we think to do is to go back to the initial facts, accepting them as understood. Thanks to Bharath, for clearing up the misunderstanding.
We will march on, and meet, indeed. Sorry you are having to face problems, and thanks, as ever, for the hosting and the work that goes with it.

Nageswaran,
Sorry, you had to go through all this! Your spirit is that of a true rasikA--and what's more, you gladly take upon yourself responsibilities, making the arrangements. Whether it's a hall or your own home, let us do our little bit too. Very nice of Vishnuprasad to offer lunch for all of us. Some of us wish to join him as well.

Since we won't be able to identify members by face, can we have a suitably designed badge(designed by some of our computer experts) in which we can write our name, id and pin to our shirts?

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
The one who has eagerly offered his designs for the badge in the past years was Vasanthakokilam! Others have chimed in too. Somehow, it did not materialize since not many were going to be there, and we could introduce ourselves to each other. This year, as many more are going to show up, we may need badges, after all!.

IDENTITY CARD FOR THE RASIKAS.
IDENTITY CARD FOR THE RASIKAS.
With the impetus given by Sri VKV, we have successfully conducted the Rasikas’ meet in 2009 and the preparation for the Global Rasikas meet 2010 is underway. With the
Expectation of a large participation of the global Rasikas, Mr. Nick and Sri C Rama
have mooted the idea of a proper identity card to be pinned in their shirts is suggested
for easy recognition of the Rasikas.
Well, with the artistic ideas from the Rasikas, they may suggest a format for the identity card.
They suggested format may be
1. A passport size photo in the top LH side.
2. A logo of Rasikas. Org adjacent to the photo in RH side in a circle and in the top of the circle and member at the bottom of the circle. In between the two perhaps a single line drawing of Meera with the tambura.
in the centre.
4. Name of the Rasika.
5. User name of the Rasika.
6. Mail ID of the Rasika.
7. Country and the State where the Rasika is residing.
8.Phone and Mobile NO. Of the Rasika. [OPTIONAL].
The suggestive ideas may be submitted up to 30.11,2010.
The admin and the moderators may select the best format of the Identity card
and this may be followed by all the Global Rasikas attending the meet.
All Rasikas can suggest the correct format to be adopted and their model of the
Identity card.

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
Dear all, Please let me know if you require any help with regard to fixing of a venue for the rasikas meet on December 19th. I understand there is some problem. As we have been busy with many activities, I lost track of things. Our Infosys hall is booked on 19th dec.for concert of Mudhra as well but we have a smaller hall in the same venue in which can accomodate about 100 people. if you let me know, I will see if we can arrange that.Mr.Nageswaran is a very enthusiastic organiser but having such meets at one's residence is quite a task, that too given his age! Let me know how I can be of help for the rasikas meet. I can coordinate with Mr.Nageswaran and organise the event. Please let me know.

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
My only request while fixing the agenda for the rasikas meet is to avoid concerts or lec-dem by anybody (including myself! ) as there will already be a profusion of it in the december fest and we can very well attend them. Let us give all forumites a chance to exchange their views and experiences or talk on some interesting topics and that itself will be quite interesting. Sitting through a concert amidst the meeting will serve no purpose. I leave it to the forumites to think about this and decide.

Dear music_ is_ life,
I was trying to enter my Name & other details. I am getting an instruction that only
the owner of the site only can make entries.
It would be better if the individual Rasikas are able to make the entries by themselves instead of the creator [yourself] to make the entries by suitably modifying the settings.
Any how I am giving my details for the proper entries by you.
Real Name;- S.NAGESWARAN.
User Name;- S.NAGESWARAN.
Country , State & City;- India; Tamilnadu; Chennai.
No. of guests;- 5

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
There will be ample time to discuss THINGS AMONG FORUMITES ON ANY SUBJECT they want to discuss. However commitments already made cannot be CHANGED at this time.Nageswaran's grand daughter will be singing for half an hour.Similarly I will be talking about MMI& PMI briefly- NOT A LEC-DEM- to elicit suggestions & co-operation for their centenary celebrations. There were requests from members for me to discuss my personal interactions with both of them. I do not plan to discuss any technical aspects myself. My presentation can be strictly curtailed to talk about plans for those celebrations if there is lack of interest. Quite frankly I do not like to speak myself.....VKVradha bhaskar wrote:My only request while fixing the agenda for the rasikas meet is to avoid concerts or lec-dem by anybody (including myself! ) as there will already be a profusion of it in the december fest and we can very well attend them. Respected Admin,
The Google format suggested by Sri music_is_life will be useful in many ways for all the Rasikas.
Since it is available as a part of the Global Rasikas Meet 2010 letter, many Rasikas may
Skip the importance of the format suggested and may omit to fill up the same.

Respected Overseas Rasikas,
The overseas Rasikas who have already confirmed their participation in the Global Rasikas
meet thread may kindly fill up the Google format since this will felicitate me to know the
exact NO. of people who are participating.
Only a few Rasikas from Chennai have indicated their participation in the meet
till now. I would request all other Chennai Rasikas to confirm their participation
in filling up the Google format created by Sri music_is_life Rasika at the earliest.
The Rasikas from other states of India may also kindly confirm their participation early
in the Google format.

Re: GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET DURING DECEMBER 2010.
It is going to be very tough for rasikas to miss the rare chance of hearing Sri R K Srikantan, one of the topmost Carnatic Musicians. May be this is the reason why many rasikas have not confirmed their participation in the rasikas meet.vs_manjunath wrote:rasikas attending this global meet sch. on 19th morning will be missing RK Srikantan's concert scheduled in Music Academy betn. 9.15 am to 11.45 am on the same day.
Would it be possible to start the rasikas meet at 1.00 pm the same day? The meeting can start with Nageswaran's grand daughter's singing for half an hour followed by a brief talk by VKV about MMI. Introduction of rasikas can be informal.
