The Pallavi line should be " chittam irangAdaDEnayyA" and NOT "irangAdEnayyA". Several artists also used to sing as "irangAdEnayyA". I have pointed this out many times in the past also. This is due to a printer's devil in the book ! irangAdadhu + yEnayyA = irangAdadEnayyA. I was pleased to note that Ranjani & Gayatri have corrected this in their latest concert.

Lakshmanji,
The capital 'D' (ட) in 'cittam irangAdaDEnayyA' (given in post #6) is not correct. That is what I corrected. It should be 'dE' (தே) (இரங்காததேனய்யா). It will be split as 'இரங்காதது ஏனய்யா' irangAdadu EnayyA' (irangAdadEnayyA). In the version given by you, it will be split as 'இரங்காது ஏனய்யா' (irangAdu EnayyA) (irangAdEnayyA). What the composer has written, I am not aware, but grammatically, the latter version is also correct.

Sorry to drag this on ! Cittam irangAdadu EnayyA = Why haven't you yielded to my entreaties? The question is complete. On the other hand, the other splitting Cittam irangAdu EnayyA = not yielding to my entreaties ---------? is also correct; but in this context the question is incomplete, since there is no verb afterwards in the song. Hence the only correct version here should be irangAdadEnayyA.

sundara rajan,
I have seen the Tamil version - http://muruganarul.blogspot.com/2007/03/blog-post.html
It is given as 'irangAdEnayyA?' - (இரங்காதேனய்யா?).

I have qualified my observation by stating that I was not aware of what the composer has actually written. I mentioned that 'irangAdEnayyA' is grammatically correct. It will be split as 'irangAdu; EnayyA?' (இரங்காது; ஏனய்யா) 'irangAdu' as an affirmative statement and 'EnayyA' as a interrogation. I do not understand as to what is wrong with this.

I am not finding anything so complicated as to involve a dispute. I am not disputing what the composer has written - if he has written as 'irangAdadEnayyA'. From my side I put an end to this by stating that 'irangAdEnayyA' is correct. Fullstop.

Mr. Govindan: Let me make it clear that there is no dispute here ! We two have different interpretations. I already agreed that irangAdu + yEnaiyyA = irangAdEnayyA is also grammatically correct. But my interpretation was/is that, in the present context , irangAdadu+yEnaiyyA = irangAdadEnayyA should be the correct version. Let us agree to disagree on the interpretation and leave it at that. No dispute !
