'patti' is bhakti alright. But the words 'pattiku nilaitanilE tittikkum pazhamE' is a bit tough. 'pattikku' is 'for devotion'. What is 'nilaitanilE'?

Also in "shEl kATTum vizhik kadaiyAl tiruvaruLaik kATTum" as dancing Lord - is that "shEl kATTum" ? then what is "vizhik kadayAl tiruvaruLaik kATTum" ?

My doubt about the word 'nilaitanilE' remains. 'tanilE' means 'in'. What 'nilai' means here?

Thank you Shri Govindan - I just googled and found an interesting write-up on charsur.

He appears to have been a highly elevated and enlightened soul.

I just realized the famous Petrai Thai, Vanathin Meedu, Thenana Inikum...form part of the (Thiru)arutpa.


Found some lovely renditions - musicindiaonline lists arutpa songs by Mahathi and Jayashree. The suprabhatham (Thirupalli Ezhuchi) by Mahathi is just suberb, a mature, strong voice I have not heard before. Also, a lovely old movie clip Konjum Salangai on youtube, according to comments, in Sulamangala Rajalakshmi's voice.

No downloadable numbers but Sanjay S seems to have a CD- entitled Arutpa with select songs.

Puzzled on where the 'dancing Lord' fits in.

The very next line: shivakAma valli magizh tirunaTa nAyakanE - the divine (tiru) Lord/master (nAyakanE) of all dances (naTa) [1] in whom pArvati (SivakAmavalli) [2] delights in (magizh).

[1] naTa nAyakan could also mean the lord/master of all the naTas - the practitioners of the fifth, the nATya vEda (nATya as in dramaturgy)
[2] SivakAmavalli - the beautiful damsel (valli) who is the very personification of Siva's desire (kAma)
