Paaripoyi chaala kori Dayayunchara
Hi,
I am trying to translate above Telugu line "Paaripoyi chaala kori Dayayunchara" - Paaripoyi doesn't seem to fit the context.
Paaripoyi - ran away
Chaala - lots/much
Kori - wanted
daya yunchara - show mercy.
But the line doesn't seem to make any sense. The best I can think of is "hurry up, she expects much from you. Show mercy on her". Preceding line is "vanajakshi nee paai marulu konnadira" which means "lotus eyed girl is in love with you". The line after "paaripoyi..." means "come embrace her. She is waiting for you".
Are there any other meanings to "Paaripoyi"? Have you seen this word in any other composition?
Also, does anyone know what "polathini" means?
Thanks,
Ganesh.

Ganesh, I think 'pari' here is the same as 'parivu' in tamizh, meaning 'affection'....Smt. Savitri can confirm.

Lakshman Sir - Yes this second part of Pallavi. First part is as mentioned above.
Ravi - that might suit better. Thing to remember - this is "paari.." not "pari.."

Re: Paaripoyi chaala kori Dayayunchara
The word "paaripoyi" means,"run away".
To understand the line better, this is the way:
The lotus eyed girl is enchanted by you.
The line in question:paaripoyi:she has run away [from her home]
Chaala: a lot, much
kOri:expecting
dayayuncara:be kind to her
The lotus eyed girl is enchanted by you
"she has run away{from her home} expecting a lot {of affection from you}"
"Be kind to her"
Hope it is clear now.As for the word"polathini" I am at a loss.If the complete sentence is provided it may be helpful

"polati" means a lady. But it would be most helpful if you post the entire varnam, rather than break it up into odd bits, and that would also help us spot any inaccuracies.

Re: Paaripoyi chaala kori Dayayunchara
I guess I deserve that, since I was the one who asked for the full lyric. I started on it, but it is hard work and the lyric is not particularly profound so there is little enthusiasm for me. Here's how far I got, hopefully Savitri garu can take over:
vArijAkSi nIpai (padavarNa). rAgamAlikA. Adi tALA. Composer: Tanjavur Quartette.
(rAgA: mOhana)
P: vArijAkSi nIpai marulu konnadirA pAripOyi cAla kOri dayayuncarA
A: kOri nA polatini lAlinci gUDarA ipuDu nI dArini jUcanika nElurA shrI jagadIsha
(already done above, though I don't find the pAripOyi phrase very satisfying)
(muktAyi svara sAhitya)
shrIkara sukumAra shubhakara suguNa lAlita krpAkarayani madini
dalaci entO mamata jendaganu parAku sAyarAdu sadaya ipuDu
madini: mentally dalaci: thought
I keep thinking of you as Srikara, Sukumara, Subhakara, Suguna Laalita Krpaakara (kind soul who celebrates good qualities) and my love builds, please, don't disregard me now!
C: pantamu sEya vaccunA ramaNitO nIvu
pantamu: hold a grudge, fight/compete.
Is it right for you to hold a grudge against this beautiful one?
1: nAmATa vinarAdA bhUpAluDa ipuDu
Can you not listen to me now (do what I say), O King (bhUpAluDu: Literally, ruler of Bhoomi, earth)
2: sEvaka jana paripAluDavanucu prEma sadAbdhini jErenurA
kanikaramuga brOvakidEdirA madana tApamu Orva jAladurA sadaya
Not sure what "sadAbdhini" means. probably sadAvini?
I keep hearing of you as one who takes care of his servants (sEvaka jana paripaala) and my love builds up; why are you not taking care of me, handsome one (madana, lit: god of love)? I cannot bear (orva jaala) this sorrow (tApamu) any longer.

Re: Paaripoyi chaala kori Dayayunchara
This is the gist of the third and fourth caranas of vArijAkshinIpai.
First two caranas have already been translated by Srinadh ji.
{c3}As the bees hum and the cool breeze wafts, the girl with exemplary qualities has swooned,
Do not hesitate. She is waiting for your arrival.
{C4}You have the charm that outweighs the moon.
All kings praise you as the Lord of the earth.
As the friend of kubera {the Lord of riches}you are full of glory.
Kindly care for the lotus eyed girl, you are playful,
the boon granter of gods.Lying on the flower bedecked bed, unable to
withstand the onslaught of cupid’s arrows, she is waiting for you.
You grant boons to good people who praise you,you are kind, she is always requesting you.
My thanks are due to Srinadh ji and shyama-priyaji.
