The next beat after samam is the starting of the song. The swaras in the chittaswara according to the Dhanammal school are as follows:

B.M. Sundaram's article about the song being Ramaswami Pilai's has a lot of holes in it, one being that Natarajasundaram Pillai learnt from Pillai himself. According to B.M.Sundaram, Ramasami Pillai died in 1852. Natarajasundaram was not even born then. According to Dhanammal tradition and also according to Kanchipuram Naina Pillai to whom Shyama Sastri, Subbaraya Sastri songs came through Kachi Sastri, srI kAmAkShi' is a kriti by Subbaraya Sastri.
