Day/occasion - Saturday/ Rasayana in association with ambalam
I was about 20 mins late she was playing the end of shree ragam ,that was her first no.She moved on to vAchaspathi it was a small filler for about 10 mins .We then had a break for about 15 mins.
Her main was an evening rAgA , it was in shyam kalyAn. She almost played for about 50 mins , the vilambit for about 20 mins needs significant level of hindustani conditioning. Since I did not have could not really connect . But as she picked more speed and with generally more flair of sitar instrument, I liked her second half much more . I left at the end of this main. I heard offline the 4th number was a jinjOti number.
This is the first time I am hearing a full length Sitar concert .Smt Anupama is intensely classical , she loses in her music and I could not see a sense of any gimmicks that usually comes at times to instrumentalists .
In short the shree to vAchaspathi to shyam kalyan to JinjOti was her concert
The tabla artist gurumurthy was very sensitive to the sitar artist, as much as how few mrudangist like tanjavur kumar play to vainikas like Smt kalpagam swaminathan.
In general I was just browsing this concept of prahaar of hindustani musicians where they generally divide rAgas in time frames . ShyamkalyAn is a prime evening rAgA from 6pm to 9pm . Looks like many rAgas that I like fall in 12 Am to 3 AM and 3Am to 6Am prahaars(It is just my taste). I am sure I will hear those dusk prahaars if I attend more concerts in shaam evenings.
The concert was successful with much much more crowd than the previous ones . In the HINDU paper there was this engagement announcement with Ambalam and Rasayana , incidentally I could spot lot of new faces to the sitar concert .
Thank God our concert did not clash with Sunday's music academy concert of Bombay Jayashree where Jodhpur Maharaj is participating as the chief guest
That is just happening now .Rams,Rajumds, nick and his wife and host vidwan TV ramprasadh , along with Hubli shri Sashi kulkarni were present for Smt anupama's concert. Overall , I could see lot of faces who had orientation for hindustani and more importantly instruments, who enjoyed the concert . Rasayana's mission was a successful start in year 2012.
