The first ever I heard mallAri was about 10 years ago in a Namagirippettai Krishnan cassette, that also had a thodi (thAmadamEn swAmi). Since then I have become partial to mallAri and nAdaswaram. Good nAdaswaram music, especially long and sedate AlApanais. They just elevate me to a different plane altogether. Unfortunately it seems to be an art in the waning

I am not sure if I ever heard a live mallAri ever, inspite of living just next to one siva & vishnu temple each in my childhood. Or may be I never registered it. But I remember the tasty sundal, puliodharai and other prasadams. But mallAri executed properly is just as superb!
