Dear Rasikas,

I would request all the Rasikas to express their views for conducting our Global Rasikas meet at Chennai 2013 during the second or third week of December 2013.

Probably we can have the meeting on 15 Th or 22 Nd December on Sunday morning from 10.00 hrs to 13.00 hrs.

The meeting can be held at my home or at the Gokale hall, Mylapore if the hall is not booked already.

I wish that we may arrange 2 or 3 concerts are held on behalf of our Rasikas.org website.

As ever, I'm happy to meet with you and other .org-rasikas during the season.

I wouldn't like to commit to a date until at least the Music Academy schedule is published. There will be one or two morning concerts that I would not miss for anything.

I wish I could attend this. But my trip to India is done for this year. Next year I would be able to join. Until then this forum will keep me happy....listening to Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan's kavadi chindu while composing this message..what a beautiful piece!

The academy website has just had a bit of a facelift. I like the new appearance.
The general schedules are not out yet although the artistes have known their dates for quite a while now. Looking forward to the season already!

After the publication of the concerts in various sabhas, the date will be finalized as recommended by the rasikas.

I'm absolutely fine on Dec 15th as of now. Could we all meet in the morning since Music Academy Inauguration would be in the afternoon? (22nd will not work as I'd be in Goa for a concert.) I shall block 15th and look fwd to meeting you all.

I had almost decided to attend the meet when I found that it would be held at Ravikiran's house. What objectivity in the discussions can we expect if the "rasikas" meet is organised at an artiste's house. Will not most rasikas defer to the artiste, request him to sing, play seek his views on things etc? Then it will cease to be a rasikas meet. It will be like any chamber concert. I request Sri.Nageswaran to review this arrangement and organise the meet in a rasika's house so that rasikas will be able top participate freely.

It's a social occasion, not a meeting of critics. I cannot think that there has been any rasikas meet that has not been attended by musicians too. As far as I am concerned, any performance from Ravikiran would be welcome, but we are not going there to ask him to perform and I had not expected it. It's December, for goodness sake, I'm sure he will not be hankering after yet more concerts. The presence of musicians has not proved a restraint in the past. It is not a meeting of critics, but criticism is not at all excluded.

Our meets have taken a number of forms. I think that there has been some musical contribution at all or most of them, but it has only been a part, so no, I doubt that it would be like any chamber concert at all. My input on the form of this year's meet is that it should be as formless as possible. Some have found that too much structure has led to too little time for simply mixing.

The intention is to meet and engage in conversation. If any person wishes to engage in critical conversation, be it of each other, of rasikas.org, of music or musicians, or of anything else, then no permission will be required other than the willingness of the person being addressed to listen.

The only possible objection that I can see to accepting Ravikiran's kind offer is that eight or ten Chennai Kilometres can seem like a long way to some of our residents, let alone our visitors.

10.00am has been mentioned. On a Sunday morning the suggested location would be about half an hour drive from the Music Academy.

Nick has written pretty much what I wanted to write. Kittappa, everyone has a right to the opinion but I wished that you communicated that with Nageswaran by email. In any case, let us not debate that in his thread.

BTW, just as an administrative matter, this is not an officially sponsored event by rasikas.org. Not that it has been promoted that way, but since it is easy to make that association, I thought I will put in this word. It is organized by Sri. Nageswaran to give an opportunity for rasikas from around the world to meet and greet.

As Nick wrote and several others have opined in the past, such meets tend to be more enjoyable if the format is kept informal with minimal overall structure, so it gives more time for people to mingle and get to know each other at their own pace.

We can think of arranging a hired van for 5 hours from 09 AM to 02 PM to facilitate the rasikas to attend the meet.

A common point say Panagal park would be convenient for rasikas from Vadapalani, West Mambalam and T.Nagar to go to Palavakkam. The cost of hiring the van can be shared.

The rasikas from other areas of Chennai can do the same.

I would be happy if our senior rasika Sri Venkatakailasam attend our meet.

I can arrange for lunch for the rasikas attending the meet [ I will be happy to meet the lunch expenses as usual].

A point was raised if I'd be playing/singing etc. I never play on social occasions (but I have a solo concert that evening). I had visualised that I'd I'd just be a fly on the wall and be treated to some of your music/views/ideas.

I look fwd to welcoming you all on 15th around 10 am.

If all goes well, I'm hoping to make it to the season and to this year's Rasikas.org meet which one cannot possibly miss!

Just to look at the chithra vINAs will be treat enough, but we would cherish a few minutes of your playing too, if I'm not asking too much. And to be in a home where music lives and reverberates--your father presiding over it all! Hope other members of your family aren't busy that morning with concerts and are going to be there as well.

Shashi, I hope I can catch a glimpse of you.

As vasanthakokilam has already mentioned, many of us like the RasikAs gathering to be an informal one, and your offering to host it makes it a very special one, of course.

In Bengaluru, Cienu has been a gracious host, making the meet happen twice at his place--both of which I missed, not being in India

For rasikas, there is nothing like gathering in a home which has a history of living music...

Of the three mosquitoers, dear harimau, the one who was planning on being in the MA can attend, after all. Isn't Vedavalli's concert much later? You can't disappoint rasikAs by not showing up

Our forumite Sri Udaysankar had invented a new instrument "Chitravenu" and its demo is available
in you tube [ see the information given in the general discussions topic].

A sample demo in our rasikas meet 2013 at the home of Sri Chitraveena would be nice.

All the rasikas will have a close look at the instrument and more information's can be shared
with Sri Udaysankar about the instrument.

GLOBAL RASIKAS MEET 2013.

The following points are confirmed till now.

1. Date and time of the meet; 15.12.2013-Sunday-From 10.00 AM TO 01.00.PM.

2. Venue; At the home of Sri Chitraveena Ravikiran at Palavakkam, Chennai.

3. Sri Ravikiran is gracious enough in providing snacks and lunch to the Rasikas attending the meet at his home.

4. As of now, the following Rasikas have confirmed their participation. 1. Ajit.2. Puru 00047. 3. Nick. 4. Mahavishnu.
5. Cienu. 6. Kittappa. 7. Arasi. 8. Venkatakailasam. 9. S.Nageswaran. 10. Sri Ravikiran.
Rasikas who are likely to bring the number of guests may be indicated.

5. I request the overseas Rasikas, Rasikas from Bangalore and other cities in India and the Chennai Rasikas who are likely
