Lakshman ji
Its a lovely rendition.
The opening lines are the same as from the thillana played in Tjillana Mohanambal here
http://raa.ag/t158002
But in the movie the second part drifts into Kapi from Kanada.
I am also curious as to the Thillana words and composer...

Sorry I didn't see this question earlier.. I am a little surprised that this song is not instantly familiar to you stalwart rasikas.. It appears in the first set of Lalgudi Tillanas that ever came out: the famous Dance of Sound disc that is played everywhere as background music.

Ranganayaki, good observation!
That it was used in thillana mohanambal was a misleading bit, given that the movie is set in an older time frame than Lalgudi's composing years.
But I slowly reconstructed the Lalgudi pidis and worked back.
The long intro music on the LP track is also a bit misleading as it is not pure Kanada.
My guess is that the recall success is not as high as for Desh or Behag or Maand or Pahadi. Or Mohana Kalyani or yamuna Kalyani.
Do you agree?
The exercise from first listen to MUS to my final post was about an hour long.

Yes, it did not appear in Tillana Mohanambal.. There was no Lalgudi music in that movie. Impressive work and timingRsachi wrote:Ranganayaki, good observation!

I am unable to agree, not because I disagree, but because I don't know.. For me, any Lalgudi tillana that I've heard would be instantly recalled because I'd have listened to it a zillion timesRsachi wrote:My guess is that the recall success is not as high as for Desh or Behag or Maand or Pahadi. Did you listen to the Thillana Mohanambal link I gave?
Ok. Let's have a game.
How many Lalgudi Tillana tracks do you have?

Re: Beginning words/composer of this tillAnA
I am sorry - I sometimes get carried away and don't read fully.. I only listened to the Mandolin Srinivas track. I only responded to that one and the original question and your search.
Does it really appear in Tillana Mohanambal? You might have got me there..
I came to this thread realizing while thinking about it that you may interpret my words as boasting. I didn't mean to boast, or say that I can recognize songs instantly.. I just meant to say that once I hear a Lalgudi tillana, I love it so much that I listen again and again and it becomes very familiar, so familiar that it is like recognizing the Ninnukori Mohana Varnam.
So I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. I will check this MOhanambal track right away.

Not sure why you askRsachi wrote:

My ipod locked itself and locked me out, so I had some 1000 misc. tracks on it, with a couple of hundred lalgudi tracks.. that's about it. My phone lets me listen to carnaticradio in the car. So if I am lucky, they will have a nice concert that I want to listen to.
I don't have all those terrabytes you all have accumulated.
To T. Mohanambaal now..

RSachi, I listened to that piece (with difficulty - had to use music india online) and I'm afraid it is not the same piece at all. The very first pallavi line itself ends differently.. if you check the anupallavi in both you will find that they are completely different.
I am so glad.. I doubt that Lalgudi Jayaraman would have allowed his piece to be played in that manner..

Re: Beginning words/composer of this tillAnA
TM the movie came out in the sixties.. probably the late sixties. I don't know if the kaanada tillana was composed before the movie, I doubt it. I wonder if anyone knows. Not that it changes anything, as there is no doubt that it is not the same tillana. I don't even think it is Kaanada.. apart from the bhava being absent, the ni seems to be different. I could be wrong, but can someone tell for sure what raga it is? (in the nadaswaram piece)
Also, I think there could be some problem with the USrinivas file I downloaded to listen
.. please check it, Sri Lakshman and let me know. I had immediate problems, but I'm ok now. If it is not the file then it is the doing of sendspace.. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I really wanted to re-listen more carefully to USrinivas's Kaanada, in the light of RSachi's comment, but I don't want to download it.
