Corrections needed to this description of sItA

Post by rshankar »

Rajani, Keerthi, Smt. Savitri (or anyone else who can): can you please edit, and give me the padArtha for this verse (from the vAlmIki rAmAyaNa) that describes sItA as she comes to the wedding hall?
TIA!

Likewise
सीतां समानीय - bringing Sita, (who was)
सर्वाभरण भूषिताम् - adorned with all ornaments
पद्मां पद्मवियुक्तां - looking like Lakshmi, who has left the lotus
वै केशवांकच युतामिव | *** ( will check this - others may help )
विद्युत्प्रभां - resembling the glow of lightning
विशालाक्षीं - having wide eyes,
स्निग्ध कुंचितमूर्धजाम् - having slick, curly hair ( could be due to oil or water)
हंसांकितेन क्षौमेण किंचित् संवृताम् - draped in silk with Hamsa designs
वासितेनोत्तरीयेण सुरक्तेन सुसंवृताम् - and in an upper garment that is deep-red

Thanks PB for the corrections :
(She looked like Lakshmi without her lotus)
केशवाङ्कच्युतामिव -as if she was let down from Vishnu's lap

क्षौमेण किञ्चित्पीतेन - by a silk garment that was a little/somewhat yellow

Thank you, PB.
Rajani....can we consider that her upper garment was red, shot with gold?

Ravi - I am not sure if kinchtpeethena can be interpreted as gold. Also, can be an adjective to both the garments - I am not very sure. hope Govindan Sir can clarify.

Yes.

In the earlier link:
http://valmiki.iitk.ac.in/commentaries? ... a_value=73
it is mentioned in the note as:-

Rajani,
I am not qualified to translate Sanskrit. I would not like to venture.
Thanks for remembering me.
