Though some of you may know that I have a love/hate relationship with this forum, I am part of this family.

Mukhari is my favorite ragam. But, sometimes I get confused between mukhari and bhairavi ( harimau,uday has to explain the layman differences. I am seriuous)

The first line of the song you have here really gets the differences down - fully of phrases that are pure Mukhari.. All the sangati variations on "kaama" in "Shivakaama Sundari" and on "Vandarul" are typical Mukhari phrases. Really in addition to everything else

From just the point of view of the arohana-avarohana, the two ragas are similar in that they both use a higher da in rising phrases, and a lower one in descending phrases. The avarohana is identical in both.

Mukhari: SRMPNDS
Bhairavi: SGRGMPDNS or SRGMPDNS

I am not good at describing phrases. Still here I go.. In Mukhari you won't hear SRGM, common in bhairavi.. you would hear SRM.., SRMG--R, etc.
You would not hear PDNS.. You would hear pds.. pdsrs, pdsrm--, pdsrmg-r, and p-NDS--,

There are a lot of phraseological differences which become perceptible from intent listening. It is just a question of registering the differences which come from familiarity with one of the ragas, just as you were able to register the similarities which are in no way more evident than the differences in fact. It's just perspective. Give the pallavi of this song a fresh ear.
