The RTP in Mukhari from Chitravina Ravikiran's album "Kaarunyam" is worth dying for. Here's an excerpt from the initial portion of the alapana, accompanied by Sriram Parashuram. I couldn't find an online version of the whole thing and scratching my head about copyright etc as to uploading it somewhere.

Is this the track? All my search shows only an 8:12 long track and it costs Rs 12 for a purchase and download at iTunes:
https://itunes.apple.com/in/album/ragam ... =608596459

I was able to find it in some other pirate site also.

My choice is ''rAma_bhakti_sAmrAjya-shuddhabangALa_tyAgarAja'' by MSG.

Traditional yet very innovative; playful yet serious.

This can be found in Sangeethapriya.

This is the third item in the concert uploaded by Kasturi Mambalam.

TR Mahalingam's concert with Chembai and Maharajpuram should be one of the best pieces of instrumental music recorded ever.

The Bhairavi RTP below comes very close too. Palghat Mani in devastating touch.. ufff.. I was left gasping!

That concert from 30 years ago at Music Academy to this day never fails to move me - the concert is an absolute gem from the beginning to the end.

Another gem of a concert at the same venue two years prior - the pantuvarali and karaharapriya are memorable. Here are the links to the full length concerts

Thanks.More of these nonstop tracks please !!
There are many great aspects to these. The most ghana of ragas handled in the most ghana of approaches , in a very ghana instrument by a very ghana vidwan.Flow of thoughts (mine as a listener, too) not interrupted by the violin ( no judgements being made here )
The sight in the 80s was a treat in itself .
My Dad used to admire exclaiming " People talk of GNBs ladder like approach to alapana . With this kid it is like climbing a hill to reach our diety.Making one approach. Then another .A pause to catch the breath , the darshan , and the canter , back to the plains (ragamalika).
Pure bliss that envelopes me again and again .Over decades.Classicism at its best

Video is ahead by less than a second - will need to play it slow motion to tell exactly.

This korvai by Harishankar has a good reduction

ta-ti-ta ( 6) ( kidatakatarikita (4) - tom(2)) = 12.

12 + 10 + 8 ( ta - ti -ta ) in lower kAla for the prefix. Then on higher kala sollu 6 5, 4, 3 ( kidatakatarikita (4) - tom(2)) in = 48

then a 1 ( short tom) + 15 + 1 + 15 + 1 + 15 = 48 -

Total 96 mAtras.

tiSra conversion 96 * (2/3) = 64 will span one Adi tAla 2 - kaLai avarta ( 6 (takitatakita) *16 = 96).

So two times in catuSra nadai and 3 times in tiSra nadai = 96+96+64+64+64 = 384

Since this is miSra tripuTa ( 7 + 4 - in this case 22 akshara for 2 kaLai) - with 1/2 idam ( or 1/2 akshara offset) - he begins the korvai half akshara into the dRtam ( 32 matRas left in the cycle if counted from arudhi samam) . for 22 Akshara tAla you have 88 mAtras in catuSra nadai.

so 32 + 88+ 88+ 88 + 88 = 384.

For Adi talam it can be played twice ( 96+96 = 64+64+64 3 Avartas ) from samam in catuSra nadai and 1 or 3 times in tiSra nadai since one tiSra nadai occupies exatcly one Avarta (64).

And he does that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_33FkETjQoc

Shanks, thank you for those sublime Ravikiran concerts. What a pantuvarALi, Ananda bhairavi, kharaharapriya, kEdaragowLa, and kAmbOji! On the subject, Ravikiran's elaborate rendition of mAyamma in ahiri at the MA a few years ago stands in my memory as one of my favourite instrumental pieces. http://www.sangeethamshare.org/tvg/SEAS ... Suresh, what an awesome bahudAri passage! Who is the violinist? Such clean technique in both fingering and bowing - with the glides, I detected a fair bit of a Parur influence and thought maybe HNB, though I haven't heard him enough. I know the purists say that alapanai-like flourishes should be avoided in kalpanaswaras, but how beautiful were 00:12 and 1:13-1:23?

The violinist is Charumathi Raghuraman, Have updated clip to show that.

What goes on between 1:07 and 1:10? Is that bowing or fingering? Is there a name for that? Something like a motodrome effect. Have heard something similar on veena concerts also.

Of course it was Charumathi! Ought to have known that given how many of her solos I've seen, but I got distracted by how Parur-esque the content of the swaras was. 1:07 to 1:10 is mostly fingering I think - patterns along the lines of P,NP - N,SN - S,GS - onwards up the scale played with increasing volume (this was probably modulated with increasing azhuttam in bowing). I couldn't really make out the exact swaras because the volume was initially too low when she starts in the D string.

I love violin interpretations of this ragam.

Here's MSG giving it his folksy touches, bringing out the sheer brightness of the ragam:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/xhd41l

And her guru, TNK, treats the ragam with his usual seriousness and clarity:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/4n3bas

I think Charumathi is well on her way to evolving her own technique, if she hasn't already. She has the TNK touches of full length bowing and the clear tone, but she employs a lot of seemingly Rajam/Parur-esque fingering touches rather than the vINa-esque hard stops TNK prefers. Very neat.

Here is a concert by Shri Trivandrum Venkataraman with Shri Kamalakar Rao
http://www.sangeethamshare.org/vijayago ... kataraman/#

The rAgamAlika tAnam after the main (TRV often played that :) ) ...

The choice of the rAgams is itself so awesome -- and the traditional aesthetic of bring out the rAgam right away is so exciting! :D
