This pArkadal alaimElE was immortalized by Smt MLV after she sang in the move rAja desingu, Incidentally I have heard Smt MLV's outstanding rendition in her super hit tukkada segment when I was a teen aged boy.Smt MLV has sung this without cittaswaras.
THe cittaswaras were added by vidwan SuryaprakAsh, incidentally I bought his cd by name "The legendary melodies by SuryaprakAsh". This rendition by SuryaprakAsh with cittaswaras is brilliant and he has delivered in an immaculate fashion.Incidentally this effort of adding cittaswaras was just added half an hour before recording of his cd, so it was almost like kalpanaswaras that became cittaswaras.

[5] pAyAi ezhu – something that rises as a sheet – a pAi is something that is spread on the floor.
[6] SinavampaNargaL – I have translated this contextually – I do not know its exact meaning.

Ravi: Good to read your translation. Some minor points
udiram is the Tamil form of "rudhiram" (blood) in Sanskrit. Sahodara comes from "udara" which means belly/womb as in lambodara(long-bellied) etc.
The sins you have listed actually are part of the six great (inner) enemies. The 5 pancha-maha-paatakas are swarnasteyam(stealing gold), brahmahatti(killing a bramin) etc.

Since there was no letter for the sound 'ha' in 'Sen'tamizh, it gets replaced by g/k (the numerous mOgans and mOkans of the world will serve as evidence) or gets dropped. Therefore, hInan is the same as Inan...another example is probably when mahA (big/great) morphs into mA (or vice versa)...

If you read the Devi Bhagavatham, you will find another version. 'yOgamAya' concept precedes Krishnavatara. Even before Matsya avatara of Vishnu - Hayagriva - you will find reference about HER(?) - refer to slaying of madhu-kaiTabha.

An absolutely scintillating version of this song - easily the most imaginative and energetic choreography that I have ever seen. I really wish they had worked with Sri Suryaprakash's version with the ciTTasvaras - the scope for nriTTa by these talented young men would have made it even more sensational. I loved the first and last formation showing AdisEshan...the churning of the milky ocean, the hiraNyakashipu episode...I am a fan of Sri Shankar Kandasamy!
