Right. I do not think the prevalent practice is go so far out on lyrics that melody is given a lower status, so we do not need to fear that. It is typically the opposite.
May be - but there are rumblings to that effect that even in Carnatic Idol 2010 - Abhilash was corrected for mis-pronouncing the svara ni as Ni - by the judge NSG. We see so many people raving about the diction of certain artistes - where I think the music has reduced! Pronunciation ( in their version of clarity - wherever they got that sense from) was cited as an issue by many people as an issue with musicians of golden era! I myself have heard from ordinary folks!

Now don't bring in Bhajans - many people have not heard old fashioned Sampradaya Bhajans - and now even the Bhajan doyens of today have started splitting words too much!

Nevertheless I liked what she did there with banTu rIti : https://youtu.be/PbwOxQPcEq8?t=3012, that creates a musical moment with elongation of rIti! Requires thought and control (of course prevalent skill with quite a good number of today's artistes - but really not that trivial - as many will not think and stick to the thing called my pATAntaram)!

VKM,
Good catch! Not the first time am I seeing Amrutha thinking through the letter and spirit of lyrics and presenting them accordingly.

Sri VG's translation:
O Lord (ayya) rAma! Give (iyyi) me the privilege of being in Your service (koluvu) (koluviyyavayya) as (rIti) a servitor (baNTu) (literally armed guard).

So the usual way of reeling off "Banturitikolu" "iyavayyarama" breaks the words wrongly... Bantu riti koluvu iyyavayya Rama
Also highlighting the first two words is key to the entire song.. "Bantu riti"

Thanks!

I am still fond of listening to her Bhavayami Raghuramam available on Youtube.
Seems about 6 years old. Seems it has gained more sheen in the meanwhile.

I would suggest Amrita Venkatesh / artists in general to popularise the following kritis of Swati Tirunal which are outstanding but not commonly heard in concerts these days:

1. Kamalajasya hrita nigamaraasi- Ragamalika (Pallavi in Mohanan) -on Dasavataaram
2. Pannagendrasayana Sripadmanabha-Ragamalika (Pallavi in Sankarabharanam)- Padam
3. Nandasuta tava jananam indukuley- Kurinji (on Sri Krishna Jananam)

Prince Rama Varma has rendered these kritis in concerts.

There was a kriti in mohanam (not ragamalika) that I heard at a wedding in kerala that made an impression.
