Smt. R. Vedavalli
Smt. Sumati Krishnan
R.K. Sriramkumar - Violin
Pravin Sitaram - Mridangam
B.S. Purushottaman - Kanjeera

Jan 25, 2006 - Wedding Concert of one of our regular poster - Prashant

Though it was a private concert - I am posting the list to share the fact that the concert was top class, no - way mediocre because it was a kalyANa kutcheri etc. (I am posting at the request of Prashant)

Duration: about 2 hrs and 20 mins

1. vanajAksha - mandAri varnam - Adi - mysUr vAsudEvAchAr (S)
2. gajAnanayutam - chakravAham - Adi - dIkshitar (S at ajEndra)
3. koluvaiyunnADE - dEvagAndhAri - Adi - thyAgarAja (R)
4. nannu pAlimpa - mOhanam - dEsAdi - thyAgarAja (R)
5. lAvaNya rAma - pUrnashaDjam - rUpakam - thyAgarAja
6. chEta shrI bAlakrishnam - dwijAvanti - rUpakam - dIkshitar (R, S in slow speed alone)
7. shrI rAjagOpAla - sAvEri - Adi - dIkshitar (RS, N, S at dIrAgragaNya)
8. AlokayE rukmiNI kalyANagOpAlam - kIravANi - chApu - nArAyaNatIrthar (R, N, S at dwAraka)
9. tani Avartanam
10. kalyANOllAsa - shlOkam in kahraharapriyA, chEnchuruTi, dhanyAsi, nAdanAmakriyA, nIlAmbari and maNirangu
11. mAmava paTTAbhirAma - maNirangu - chApu - dIkshitar
12. lAli lAli - pIlu - Adi - purandaradAsa
13. mangaLam

Highlight was the meditative alapana in dwijAvanti, followed by a soulful rendition of the song and the bhava laden slow swaras

nannu pAlimpa was sung in the original dEsAdi tALa structure - beat followed by 2 finger counts and then a count with the palm facing up. - in 2 kalai - it is 2 finger counts of each and 2 of the palm facing upward. This is somehwat like how rUpakam is put nowadays. The kriti starts before the samam - in the structure. Was quite an eye opener. This is how dEsAdi tALa was.

Nice choice for the main piece and classic neraval in both the sAvEri and kIravAni pieces. Very nice viruttam. Excellent support from all - Pravin on Mdgm, RKS on Violin and BSP on kanjeera. Mami was suffering from cold and fever like symptoms, still gave a very nice, power packed concert, and would have gone on - but for the time restriction of 9 pm that was imposed, in view of the dinner that had to follow.

Many thanks to all of you for your good wishes and kind words. They are heartily appreciated by me and my [much!] better half! Looking forward to being back online more regularly in a few weeks.

i thought dEsAdi began with the vIchu and a beat and two counts.

My best wishes to prashant

Bharath

You may be right. I was not sure how the structure was. Mami did not explain it. It was my own understanding
Thanks

Just a clarification - from Smt. Sumati Krishnan - dEsAdi tALa is indeed as what Bharat has posted.

veechu (palm facing up) followed by a beat and 2 finger counts
