That was an amazing concert. Sri Govinda Rao was just out of the world. All those present had an experience of a life time. It was just amazing. The renditions of each of the pieces and the manOdarmam were just too good. The svarams in mAyAmALavagauLa were marvellous. The pushpalatikA nerval and svarams were beautiful. The sAvEri AlApanai and swarams were awesome. The svarams in dEvAmrutavarshiNi and sAmA were both fitting and gelled well. The violinst, Smt. Charulatha, was good and gave appropriate replies to the veteran. Sri Murthy was playing very much in tandem with the music and it was a treat to watch these two veterans perform together. Sri Sivaraman also ably assisted in adding effect to the concert.

Sounds like a great concert, Bharath.
Charulatha certainly is very active in the concert circuit now and so is Amruta Murali. No wonder--they both play so well.
Prasanna Venkatraman is learning from TKG too?
mEru samAna is also very popular of late, it seems.

PV's earlier guru, Smt.Balamani and Shri TKG are from the same Guru Parampara.

Arasi, you are quite right. It is not uncommon for people to commence their concert with it, but now it is being sung as the main piece as well (Sanjay in the last season, for example)...

It is interesting how certain vintage compositions become trendy.
In any case, this is a Musiri school speciality. I'm sure TKG excelled in it.

Also the Sankara Sivam school, I would say. TNS has been singing it and one of NSG's favored ones...

Or , should I say, Muthiah Bhagavatar school?

Hello 108talas,

I presume M_F was just pulling Bharat's leg in jest as he may possibly be using the word "amazing" in his reviews quite frequently. Notice that the word amazing is in quotes :)

The song is by Ambujam Krishna. It is in vol 2 of her work Geethamala.
I think it is an inlay card error in the AVM cassette by M.L.V.

this song kaNamum maravAdE had the mudra, 'ambuja' which i guess is that of Ambujam Krishna.

Its 'amazing' that Sri TK Murthy is still able to play so well at the age of 83/84!
