Krishnaa,
I think the following link below would be helpful.
This is an article by Gopalkrishna Gandhi , Governor of West Bengal and Grandson of Rajaji.

From the net:
I have no problem Oh, Lord, Kanna! I do not have anything to say, Kanna! I have no complaint, Oh, Govindaa! You are invisible, Oh, kanna! Yet, I have no problem, Oh, Kanna! When Lord Venkateswara is ready to give us what we want, why do we desire anything, Oh, Kanna! Manivanna, malaiappa, Govindaa! You are standing behind a screen, Oh Lord! Only those scholars who are well-versed in the Vedas can “seeâ€

Sri cienu,
That article by Gopalakrishna Gandhi was sublime. I did not realize that eloquence was an inherited trait! Thank you for the link!
krishnaa, while I am certain that no one can better the efforts of Sri Gopalakrishna Gandhi and Smt.Gowri Ramnarayan (with that moving translation), if you need a word-to-word meaning for choreography, I can attempt that.

Cienu,
An illuminating article! Thanks.
Ravi,
We discussed the song once before. Can't remember details, but I know it is one of your favorites. I remember mentioning that it wasn't as lyrical as it was a reflection of the thoughts of his last years. I said something like ' his life was so occupied with the nation, and when it all stopped, it was his faith he was pondering.
His grandson has made it all that much more meaningful for me.
Thank heavens for grandchildren who continue the tradition...

Well, what's not to like (to use GG's words) triangulated as it were between Sri Rajaji, Sri Venkataraman, and Smt. MSS?

Ravi,
thanks for the offer. as for now, i was not looking for the meaning for choreography.
But why don't you just go ahead, the song is worth a discussion.... and i would love to understand it word to word,,,, so give it a go...

Krishnaa,
Here is my attempt - it somehow seems tame, and pale compared to the stellar efforts of Sri Gopalakrishna Gandhi and Smt. Gowri Ramnarayan....
kurai ondrum illai
marai moorthi kanna
kurai ondrum illai kanna
kurai ondrum illai govinda
(I have) no worries or regrets (kurai) – not even one (ondrum illai)! Oh krishNa (kaNNA), (you are) the very essence/form (mUrti) of the vEdAs (marai).
kannukku theriyamal nirkindraai kanna
kannukku theriyamal nindraalum yenakku
kurai ondrum illai
marai moorthi kanna
krishNa (kaNNA), you exist (nirkinrAi) in a place/plane that my eyes (kaNNukku) are not able to fathom/visualize/understand (teriyAmal). Even so (even if you exist – ninrAlum – where my eyes cannot behold you), I have no worries or regrets, not even one!
vendiyathai thandhida
venketesan yenrirukka
vendiyathu verillai
marai moorthi kanna
Oh essence of the vEdAs, as long as you exist as (yenru irukka) the Lord of the seven hills (vEnkaTESan) to grant (tandiDa) my wishes/requests (vENDiyadai), I do not have (illai) any other (vEru) request/need (vENDiyadu).
manivanna malaiyappa
govinda govinda
Oh dark-hued (mani vaNNa) resident of the hills (malaiappA) of tirupati!
thirayin pin nirkinrai kanna - kannaa
thirayin pin nirkinrai kanna
unnai marayodhum nyaaniyar mattume kaanbar
thirayin pin nirkinrai kanna
unnai marayodhum nyaniyar mattume kaanbar
endralum kurai ondrum enakkillai kanna
endralum kurai ondrum enakkillai kanna
Oh krishNa (kaNNA), you exist (nirkinrAi) behind/beyond (pin) a curtain (tiraiyin) [1], and only (maTTumE) realized souls like the knowledgeable (gnyAniyar) individuals well versed (Odum – literally read/chant) in the vEdAs (marai) can attain/realize/see (kANbAr) you (unnai). Even so (enrAlum), I have no worries or regrets, nary a one.
kundrin mel kallagi nirkinra varadha
kundrin mel kallagi nirkinra varadha

Oh bountiful one (varadA), as you stand (nirkinra) enshrined in a stone (kallAgi) atop (mEl) a hillock/mountain (kunrin), I have no regrets or worries, not even one.

kalinaalukkirangi kallile irangi

Heeding to the needs/requests of kaliyug (kali nALukku), you consented (irangi – with compassion) to descend (irangi) in a stone (kallilE) vigraha and exist (nirkinrAi) permanently (nilaiyAga) in that temple (kOvilil) Oh kESavA.

Oh Lord of hills (malai appA) who does not deny (marukkAda) anything (yAdum) to anyone who asks, as long as that mother (annai), the repository (kaDal) of compassion (karuNai), who exists (nirkkum) only to grant (tara) anything (Edum) and everything to her devotees, is established (irundiDa) in your (un) heart/chest (mArbil), how (yEdu) can I (enakku) have any worries (kurai)? I have no (illai) worries or regrets (kurai), none (ondrum) at all!
[1] – I think the curtain here is ignorance, egotism and sin…..which is burned away by fiery intellect, knowledge and wisdom.

http://www.ibiblio.org/sripedia/oppilia ... 00124.htmlThat MaayA of the Lord is Her curtain. This wondeful MaayA (Moola Prakruthi) used by the Lord for creation of the world and its beings is the YavanikA for Sri Devi and become Her servant (sEshan) .This vasthu known as VishNu MaayA performs the act of creating vipareetha Jn~Anam (JaganmOhanam) through the operation of the thriguNams and becomes Her servant in its role as Her curtain ( TirodhAnakari) .

Ravi, that was a very good translation, especially of the lines
vendiyathai thandhida
venketesan yenrirukka
vendiyathu verillai
marai moorthi kanna
thank you so much...
Yes, the curtains could be ignorance etc, but even Vgvindan is right because even the gItA says "nAham prakASa sarvasya yogamAyA samanvrita"
vendiyathai thandhida

rs,
Yes, Sri tyAgarAja has amplified it further as -
'dharmAdi mOkSamulu pAra dOlucunnadi
nA lOni mada matsaramanu tera tIyagarAdA'? -
"Won’t You lift the veil of (desire), (anger), (avarice), (delusion), arrogance and envy? - these are driving away the four-fold human pursuit - dharma -( artha) - (kAma) and mOksha."

Re: meaning of kurai ondrum illai
Hi,
Can somebody explain what this means. I am unable to understand this line.
"Oh krishNa (kaNNA), (you are) the very essence/form (mUrti) of the vEdAs (marai)".
thanks.
